Fun Purina Contest!! #MenAndCatsContest @ProPlanCat

Do you know an extraordinary man with a cat?

Purina Pro Plan is shredding perceptions of both traditional cat food and who typically loves cats by launching the Purina Pro Plan #MenAndCatsContest to celebrate the new Savor Shredded Blend.
Purina Pro Plan is working to change the perception of dry cat food by introducing Savor Shredded Blend, an all-new mealtime experience that combines crunchy kibble and tender meaty shreds to provide both extraordinary nutrition and exceptional taste.
In order to change how people think of who typically loves cats, Purina Pro Plan is partnering with proud cat guy and “Devious Maids” actor Gilles Marini to search for extraordinary men who own and love cats. We are asking that people nominate the cat guys in their lives or that those extraordinary cat guys out there enter themselves by sharing a photo of them with their cat on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MenAndCatsContest and tagging @ProPlanCat from August 31 – September 14. Those men could be featured in the 2016 Purina Pro Plan Extraordinary Men and Cats Calendar and win a year’s supply of Savor Shredded Blend.
The calendars will be used to raise funds for rescue groups nationwide through the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue network.

For entry details and eligibility requirements and to learn more about Savor Shredded Blend, visit www.proplan.com/MenAndCatsContest  and let’s not only change the perception of who loves cats, but also help rescue organizations across the country find loving, permanent homes for cats just like theirs.

The Bridge Builder #Review and #Giveaway! #BRIDGEBUILDER

About Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein:

Founder and President of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and Goodwill Ambassador for the State of Israel, Rabbi Eckstein has devoted more than 35 years to building bridges of understanding between Christians and Jews and broad support for the State of Israel.  He is recognized as the world's leading Jewish authority on evangelical Christians.  Rabbi Eckstein received Orthodox Rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University in New York.  He holds master's degrees from Yeshiva University and Columbia University, where he also completed studies for his doctorate.  Rabbi Eckstein has served on the faculties of Columbia University, Chicago Theological Seminary, and Northern Baptist Seminary.  He currently serves on the executive committee of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

MY THOUGHTS-When I first picked up this book to read, The Bridge Builder, I was expecting a book that would not hold my interest at all. I like reading biographies but this was a man I had never really heard of before. Would I find it interesting enough to finish? Or would it be something I just skimmed enough to review. I dove in and I am so amazed at how much I enjoyed this!

To begin with, the man himself, Yechiel Eckstein is amazing. I found myself in tears throughout his journey, laughing at some points and then struck by his strength of spirit. The book takes you from his grandparents and then through his life, growing in the position God had given him. The name of the book, Bridge Builder, fits Yechiel perfectly. I have since looked into his ministry, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, and have seen the work they are doing. If there is one biography I would urge you to read this year, Bridge Builder would be it. This book really hit me in a way that hasn't happened in a while. And to think I almost passed it by. You will not be disappointed!

Debra Clopton’s New Book and Love at the Reins Giveaway

Counting on a Cowboy (Thomas Nelson, August 2015)

After losing everything she held dear, Abby never wants to love again. But a certain cowboy may just spur her to wonder if love might be worth the risk.

Running from a past that haunts her, Abby Knightly is drawn to the cozy town of Wishing Springs, Texas. Maybe this small town could offer hope and healing and a future for Abby . . . if she's brave enough to reach out and take it by the reins.

Bo Monahan isn't interested in the new romantic destination his little town has become---or the women who might be looking at him like he's their next Mr. Right. Between taking care of his Pops and his growing stirrup business, he isn't looking for serious romantic commitments. But when the infant son he never knew about shows up at his doorstep, his world is turned upside down.

This confirmed bachelor might not think he needs a wife, but he sure needs help. Even Abby can see that, and despite her best efforts to keep her distance, she can't help but be drawn to this new father-son duo. As Abby throws herself into helping Bo navigate fatherhood, hope sparks between them, revealing that maybe, just maybe, they can navigate their dark pasts and emerge together into a future as bright as the Texas sun itself.

MY REVIEW-Debra Clopton has penned another funny but heart warming cowboy story in Counting on a Cowboy! I love how her stories come together with characters that may not be perfect but are trying to do their best. My personal favorite is the first one but I found this one to be right on par.

Abby is running from her familiar surroundings and heads to Wishing Springs, Texas after reading about the columns written by Maggie. It sounds like the perfect laid back place to start over fresh. Bo Monahan(who is the brother to Tru from the first book) helps Abby when their cow runs her vehicle off the road but it becomes clear that he is the one needing assistance when a baby is dropped on the Monahan doorstep. And the baby is Bo's!! A girlfriend from years ago died and left the baby(one he didn't know about at all) to be given to Bo. Needless to say, this makes for some very funny parts with a no-nonsense cowboy trying to raise a youngster.

This does deal with some difficult issues but I think Debra comes at them with a good amount of common sense. You see the wisdom from Maggie and the sweetness of these guys. I couldn't help but cry at times with Pops and the struggles he was going through daily. But also for his sons, who saw him growing up as a big strong cowboy who could rope and ride like nobody else. And now with the disease his memory is going and they have a tough time of it themselves. Very hard situation to go through.

An excellent contemporary novel that will have you laughing, crying and enjoying yourself. Loved it!

Sarah Sundin’s ‘Through Waters Deep’ and Anchors Aweigh Giveaway

Through Waters Deep (Revell, August 2015)

It is 1941 and America teeters on the brink of war.
Outgoing naval officer Ensign Jim Avery escorts British convoys across the North Atlantic in a brand-new destroyer, the USS Atwood. Back on shore, Boston Navy Yard secretary Mary Stirling does her work quietly and efficiently, happy to be out of the limelight. Yet, despite her reserved nature, she never could back down from a challenge. When evidence of sabotage on the Atwood is found, Jim and Mary must work together to uncover the culprit. A bewildering maze of suspects emerges, and Mary is dismayed to find that even someone close to her is under suspicion. With the increasing pressure, Jim and Mary find that many new challenges–and dangers–await them.
Sarah Sundin takes readers to the tense months before the US entered WWII. Readers will encounter German U-boats and torpedoes, along with the explosive power of true love, in this hopeful and romantic story.

MY REVIEW-Sarah Sundin is one of those rare authors who comes along and makes you delve into a time period you may not really want to read, and enjoy yourself the whole time:) I am not a real big fan of WWII time period books. They just aren't my favorites. But this author here can make me read them and love them!

Through Water's Deep is the start of a new series and can I admit, this is probably my favorite? Other than maybe the first book I ever read of hers, A Distant Melody, because that one got me addicted to her writing. But with the mystery aspect enveloped inside these pages, I just totally fell in love. Though at first I did want to slap Jim Avery for his attitude about women, he quickly became a favorite of mine. And don't get me started on sweet mousy secretary, Mary Stirling. I can so relate to her ways and the feelings she has about herself!

One of the main things I like about the authors books would be how she brings history alive. The characters in here are on the brink of WWII and going through struggles, doubts and worry over what will happen to their country and what they may have to do if they go to battle. I enjoyed seeing the insight into the struggles people from other countries, but living in America, went through. There is a German man who made me ache with what he went through. Living life the way he did and having to defend himself to the Americans while some of them just turned on him the instant they heard his name or his accent. Makes me realize how biased and uncaring people can be. And yet some, like Mary, were willing to look past the outside and see who they were inside.

So readers, even if you don't care for military books, or WWII, please take a chance and try this author. I did and have never been more happy!! Another excellent page turner from Sarah Sundin!

The Colson Way, Loving Your Neighbor Book Review #FCBlogger

For many people, Chuch Colson is a well known household name. Personally, I didn't know a whole lot about the man himself or what he had done, just that he was an evangelical who was pretty popular. That has totally changed after reading this book and I am pretty impressed with the man as a person. His character and what he has accomplished in life make him someone to look up to and follow.

The Colson Way is written by Owen Strachan and starts from when Mr Colson is a young man, basically going through different parts of his life as a Marine and then in DC. He is bold and unashamed of his witness for the Lord and I loved reading this. But more than anything, his work for the Lord inspired me to be loving and kind to those around me, showing them the Lord and leaving an impression on them.

His ministry in the prisons is amazing and reading the testimony of how he got involved made my chuckle but also have me goosebumps. The Lord was definitely working in him and through him to get done what he did. I believe the main group this is aimed for would be millennial evangelicals, I found the book intriguing and would urge any believer to pick it up and at least try it. You won't be disappointed.

This book, The Colson Way, can be found at Family Christian Stores. Be sure to look for it at your local venue or you can purchase online.

Pre-Order ‘Glory Days,’ Max Lucado’s New Book, and Receive Free Gifts

      Glory Days By Max Lucado

The wilderness. Maybe you know it well.

The Israelites sure did. After all, they spent forty years wandering the desert. Victories were scarce. Progress was slow. They were free from Pharaoh but not free from fear. Saved but stuck.

Sounds a lot like midlife misery. Caught in a rut. Stalled out. Running on empty. Are you mired in the same?

You can name the day you became a Christian and escaped Egypt. But you can't remember the last time you defeated a temptation or experienced an answered prayer. You're fighting the same battles you fought the day you came to Christ. You're out of Egypt, but Egypt's not out of you.

Isn't the Christian life supposed to be better than this?

Jesus offers abundant joy. Yet you live with oppressive grief. The epistles speak of grace. You shoulder guilt. You are more than a conqueror yet are commonly conquered by temptation or weaknesses.

But there's good news. With God's help you can close the gap between the person you are and the person you want to be. Like Joshua and the Israelites, you can move from a wilderness existence into a promised inheritance.

This is God's vision for your life. You, at full throttle. You, as you were intended. You, as victor over the Jerichos and giants. You, minus the stumbles, hurts, and hate.

You and your Promised Land life.

      Purchase a copy: http://bit.ly/1DH3Tku

MY REVIEW-Max Lucado in this book, has given me freedom from the life I was locked into. I felt such a spiritual stirring as I read this. Many Christians are what would be known as, Wilderness Christians. I thought I was above that and had moved on in my walk with the Lord and in my living. But while devouring Glory Days I found out that maybe I hadn't moved on as much as I thought. But Max Lucado not only shows the believer where they could be in their walk, but he gives them directions and wisdom in how to move closer to what He wants us to be.

The material is easy to read and understand. Max Lucado is known for his knowledge of Scripture and being able to bring it down to a normal level. He is probably in my top five authors, maybe top three, for non-fiction study style books. Great in-depth reading material that will help you grow as a believer.

Melissa Jagears’ ‘A Bride at Last’ and a $100 Memory-Making Giveaway + Review

A Bride at Last (Bethany House, July 2015)

Abandoned by his mail-order bride, Silas Jonesey has fought an uphill battle to recover from a pattern of poor choices. Now his prayers for reconciliation have finally come true and his estranged wife has contacted him with her whereabouts.
Kate Dawson was supposed to be a mail-order bride, but upon realizing she’d been deceived about her intended groom, she’s now settled into life as a schoolteacher. When the mother of a student passes away, Kate assumes she’ll take on care of nine-year-old Anthony–until two men suddenly show up in town, claiming to be the boy’s father.
Silas can see Anthony loves Kate, so he enlists her help in reaching out to the boy and attempting to prove his paternity to the court. When a common interest in Anthony leads to an interest in each other and Silas and Kate begin to think they can overcome their rocky start, neither is prepared for the secrets and past hurts that have yet to come to light. Can Silas, Kate, and Anthony’s wounded souls bind them together or will all that stands between them leave them lonely forever?

MY REVIEW-Melissa Jagears is an author that I haven't really read much of. But if you love historical novels, this is one you will definitely want to pick up. I had a bit of a hard time getting interested at first but once I was about 1/4 of the way in, I didn't want to stop! Especially when you have a couple who dislikes each other but stand together for the sake of a child.

The sparks definitely fly in this novel and I enjoyed that. Silas and Kate are the type that every time they are around each other they get into an argument:) Lots of funny dialogue but also some very emotionally deep stuff. Again, this is not one you will want to miss!

Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Beth Vogt #Review

Crazy Little Thing Called Love: A Destination Wedding Novel

Wedding bells and storm clouds collide in the first engaging novel in a brand-new series about destination weddings, the power of love, and the possible mishaps and missteps that happen on a couple's journey down the aisle to "I do."

Paramedic Vanessa Hollister has put her adolescence behind her, including the unwanted label of being the new kid in town over and over again, thanks to her father's military career. She's overcome what her mother called "the biggest mistake of her life" and is planning an elegant destination wedding in Destin, Florida with her new fiancé. But will the reappearance of her first husband from her what-were-you-thinking teenage elopement disrupt her dream of an idyllic beach wedding?

As a professional storm chaser, Logan Hollister is used to taking risks. However, a reckless decision during the last tornado season has him questioning the future of his team, the Stormmeisters. Coming face to face with his ex-wife eight years after their divorce compels him to confront his greatest regret: losing Vanessa. Does their past give him the right to interfere with her future?

A fast-moving, powerful hurricane throws Vanessa and Logan together as they evacuate to a storm shelter along with other residents of the Florida Gulf Coast. Forced to spend time together, the pair battles unexpected renewed feelings for each other.

Vanessa and Logan are faced with a choice: Should they accept, once and for all, their teenage marital mistake? Or is God offering them a second chance at happily ever after?

        Purchase a copy: http://bit.ly/1VkD0s8

MY REVIEW-Beth Vogt is a new author for me, but one I have quickly fallen in love with. At the beginning of this book I was unsure what journey I would be led on. Needless to say, I thoroughly loved the trip!

Vanessa is a divorced woman who is getting ready to marry again. She feels the time is right and she can actually trust Ted, her fiance. But when she goes back home to settle plans for the wedding, she feels more unsettled than ever after a chance encounter with her ex-husband, Logan. He is everything her fiance isn't. Charming, dangerous and madly in love with Vanessa. I knew how the story would end, but not the journey these two characters would take to get there. And boy was it a trip!!

There are lots of little lessons in the story but the thing that stuck out the most to me was the ending. Man alive, I had tears rolling down my cheeks and all this while in the vehicle. The others were looking at me like I was nuts:) What happens before and during the wedding ceremony just made me cry. I love how the author showed both character's viewpoints and how they were both valid, but yet not as big as they thought it was. It is the minor things in life that make for the big ones. Oh, and Logan's storm chaser team?? I love them!! Totally funny together and I hope we get to see more of them. Mindy, Vanessa's friend, sure knows how to preach a sermon without preaching:) A great book that I will be going on my keeper shelf!

Patterns of Evidence: Exodus DVD Review & #Giveaway! #PATTERNSOFEVIDENCE #FLYBY

I recently had the opportunity to review this new DVD, Patterns of Evidence Exodus. This was quite an interesting film and I was curious to see how it played out. This is not just a documentary as I had first expected, but it isn't animated either. It is a lot of history but in a good way and I found myself intrigued from beginning to end.

        About Patterns of Evidence Exodus:

For more than 50 years, the vast majority of the world's most prominent archaeologists and historians have proclaimed that there is no hard evidence to support the Exodus story found in the Bible.  In fact, they say that the archaeological record is completely opposed to the Bible's account.  This view of extreme skepticism has spread from academia to the world.  The case against the Exodus appears to be so strong that even some religious leaders are labeling this ancient account as historical fiction.  Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney begins with the questions, "Is the Bible just a myth, or did the archaeologists get it wrong?"  He decides to tackle this issue wit a deliberate scientific approach.   After examining the details in the biblical text, he journeys across the globe to search for patterns of evidence firsthand.  The result is the most in-depth archaeological investigation into the Exodus from Egypt ever captured on film.   This scientific documentary's goal is to communicate the TRUTH of the Bible and help equip believers with defending their faith and the Bible.

The DVD features stunning animations and a cast including narrator, Kevin Sorbo (God's Not Dead, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), interviews with leading archaeologists including Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl, and guest appearances by Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres.

Sitting down to watch this I was first shocked at the start and then quickly pulled in to see how it finished. If you get to see this film, you will know what I am talking about. The narrator is one many will recognize, Kevin Sorbo, and he walks the viewer through the program but we also hear from archaeologists, the Israeli Prime Minister, and the film-maker behind it all. The filming is well done and I thoroughly loved it. Interesting enough that it kept my attention but not sure how well it would keep the attention of the younger guys. Seeing Israel and all the ancient places through the eyes of the lens really made my day.

        GIVEAWAY DETAILS!
One winner will receive a brand new copy of the Patterns of Evidence: Exodus movie. You will not be disappointed and I am sure you will enjoy the film as much as I did. USA ONLY. Giveaway will end 8/14. Winner will be chosen through Random.org and will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.
