What You Should Know about Rosacea

Your skin is an important organ, helping to protect and cover your inner organs and other important body systems. It is also one of your most visible organs. As a result, it is important to keep your skin in a healthy condition. Unfortunately, as with most things, your skin can experience a number of problems. Many of these conditions can be addressed by your Coral Springs dermatologists, one of which may include rosacea.

What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease, thought to be even more common than is presently reported. Many people, however, do not know enough about the condition to realize they have it, or may mistake it for another condition. Generally, rosacea is marked by a reddening of the skin, particularly upon the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, but it can also be separated into four different types. The first type is known as Erythematotelangiectatic (ETR) rosacea, which is characterized by facial redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels. Papulopustular rosacea, also known as acne rosacea, has the swelling and redness in addition to acne-like bumps that may be pus filled. Ocular rosacea tends to have the same symptoms as ETR, along with dryness, irritation, swelling, and reddening of the eyelids and around the eyes. Rhinophyma can be a result of severe rosacea symptoms that have been left untreated, and is a thickening of the skin, usually on the nose or cheeks, due to a buildup of tissue in the sebaceous glands.

Causes and Triggers

The cause for rosacea is unknown, although there are certain risk factors associated with the condition, such as family history, having a fair complexion, a tendency to blush, a history of acne, and being between the ages of 30 to 60. Women also tend to be more prone to acquiring the condition, although men’s symptoms tend to be more severe. While there is not a known cause for rosacea, many people are able to identify their triggers for their symptoms. Common triggers include wind and sun exposure, alcohol consumption, hot weather, stress, hot baths, spicy foods, and extreme fluctuations in temperature.

Treating Rosacea

There is not a specific test used to diagnose rosacea, but rather a study of the symptom history, physical examination, and ruling out of other conditions. Currently, a cure for rosacea is not available, but symptoms can be managed. Treatment from your Coral Springs dermatologists will vary by your specific symptoms, but can include antibiotics in cream or pill form, acne medications, prescription eye drops or artificial tears, laser and light treatments for reduction of reddening caused by blood vessels, or possibly cosmetic surgery for treating rhinophyma.

CFBA Tour for Scraps Of Evidence. Book #Review!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Scraps of Evidence

Abingdon Press (January 21, 2014)

by

Barbara Cameron

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Word from the author:

CBD, CBA, and ECPA bestselling author of 35 books (including new series upcoming for Abingdon Press in 2011/2012) including fiction and non-fiction books for Abingdon Press, Thomas Nelson, Harlequin, and other publishers.

I sold three films to HBO/Cinemax and am the first winner of the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award.

My two novellas won the 2nd and 3rd place in the Inspirational Readers Choice Contest from the Faith, Love, and Hope chapter of RWA. Both were finalists for the novella category of the Carol Award of the American Christian Writers Award (ACFW).

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tess has taken some ribbing from her fellow officer, Logan, for her quilting hobby. He finds it hard to align the brisk professional officer he patrols with during the day with the one who quilts in her off-time. Besides, he’s been trying to get to know her better and he’d like to be seeing her during those few nights a week she spends with her quilting guild. Then one afternoon Tess and Logan visit her aunt in the nursing home, and the woman acts agitated when Tess covers her with the story quilt. Aunt Susan is attempting to communicate a message to them about Tess’s uncle. There’s a story behind this quilt, they realize, one that may lead them to a serial killer. Will they have a chance to have a future together, or will the killer choose Tess for his next victim before they find him?

If you would like to read the first chapter of , go HERE.

MY THOUGHTS-I am not a real big fan of the quilt series, just because it isn't something I enjoy or take interest in. But when I heard about the plot of this one, I knew I would enjoy it:) And yep, it has suspense mixed in! Scraps of Evidence is centered around Tess, a police officer who has her ups and downs. She is not your typical female as a police detective has to be different, but guess what? She quilts! Her partner, Logan isn't quite sure what to make of a woman who is an officer and yet quilts at the same time. Excellent plot with characters that make you laugh and feel for them. Tess is a good heroine that is different from the normal model in Christian fiction today. Really liked her! Great book that I enjoyed!

Dare To Love Again By Julie Lessman Book #Review

She's a sassy socialite burned by love. He's a jaded cop burned by the upper class.
When sparks fly . . . will love catch fire again?

Spunky Allison McClare is determined to be a fearless, independent woman. But when she takes a notion to explore the wild Barbary Coast, she quickly discovers she's no match for the unsavory characters that haunt the dark streets.

Detective Nick Barone would rather do almost anything than teach this petite socialite self-defense, but it seems he has little choice. Sparks fly every time the two meet until a grudging friendship develops into something deeper. But is he just a fraud like all the rest of the men Allison's cared for? Or is he the one who will let her dare to love again?

Award-winning author Julie Lessman brings the glamour of Gilded Age San Francisco to vibrant life in this journey to find a love that never fails.

MY REVIEW-Julie Lessman is an author who I really enjoy. Her books are ones that make you laugh, cry and learn lessons as you flip the pages. The characters are well developed and you quickly fall in love with some of them while disliking others. And yes, it is normally the heroes that make you dislike them. But in the end, you fall for them.

This is the second book in a series and I was privileged to review the first one as well. If you haven't read the first book, I would urge you to read them in order. It could be read as a stand alone but a little much. The heroine is very sassy and independent. So if you don't like women like this, you might not like her. Allison is somewhat of a snob but you see her tender heart and want to serve others. Nick is funny. Cranky as all get out but oh so lovable once he thaws. Definitely a brute but loyal to a fault.

The side plot through this series is Alli's mother Cait and her uncle, Logan. There is a lot to this and I loved finding out more in their story.

So again, another excellent book from Julie! Her plots are always interesting, the characters are always feisty and well written, and wonderful lessons throughout. Looking forward to her next novel!

I received a copy of this book for my review purposes. I did not receive any monetary compensation. All thoughts are 100% mine.

The Headmistress of Rosemere Book #Review

Patience Creighton has dedicated herself to the Rosemere School for Young Ladies. But the return of the enigmatic master of the estate puts everything she loves at risk.

Bright, sensible Patience knows what is expected of her. At twenty-five, her opportunity for a family of her own has passed, so she invests herself in teaching at her father’s school for girls. When her father dies suddenly and her brother moves away to London, she is determined to make the school successful.
Confirmed bachelor William Sterling also knows what is expected of him, but mistake after mistake has left him teetering on ruin’s edge. As master of Eastmore Hall he owns a great deal of property — including the land where Rosemere School is located — but possesses little money to manage its upkeep. When debtors start calling, he is desperate to find a new source of income, even if it means sacrificing Rosemere.
When a fire threatens the school grounds, William must decide to what lengths he is willing to go to protect his birthright. And when Patience’s brother returns with a new wife to take over management of the school, Patience suddenly finds herself unsure of her calling. After a surprising truth about William’s past is brought to light, both William and Patience will have to seek God’s plans for their lives—and their hearts.

MY THOUGHTS-I have to tell you, this is one book I had a hard time getting into. I don't know if it is this time of year and reading a book that pulls you into dark, damp countryside, or maybe the hero who is a rogue, but I had to push myself to finish this one. Something I did not have to do with the first one. So I will be re-reading this novel again during the summer to see if I can get into it more. Now, one thing I did like was Patience. Boy is she a heroine for you! Strong, steady and dependable you can't go wrong with her. Really liked her character. If this book sounds like something you would like to read, please pick it up and try it.

Debby Mayne

Debby Mayne is a best-selling author who has published more than 25 books and novellas, 400 short stories and articles, and devotions for women. She has also worked as managing editor of a national health magazine, product information writer for HSN, a creative writing instructor, and a copy editor and proofreader. Her novel, Love Finds You in Treasure Island, Florida received 4-1/2 stars from RT Book Review, and was named a Top Pick for the month of July. She and her husband Wally have two grown daughters, and live in Palm Harbor, Florida.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It’s not long before Bethany is finding friends, not bargains, to fill her days. But has her life become too full for someone like Pete Sprockett, a childhood friend, for whom her romantic feelings are beginning to bloom? Join the quirky, loving community of Bloomfield as they do what they do best – poke their well-meaning noses in and intervene in times of need –in author Debby Mayne’s second novel in what has become a five book series about a community where life is simple and love is real.

If you'd like to read the first chapter of For the Love of Pete, go HERE.

THE REVIEW-First off I have to say, this is a really fun book! It kinda makes you laugh, feel good and just go back to the days of friends and neighbors getting together and doing things for the community. And yes, I might have wanted to slap a couple of people for their meddling and interfering but in the end you see their caring. I absolutely loved Pete! Ha! Catchy title and all:) But in reality he was my favorite character. Kind, solid and caring to the core. And we can't forget the girl he has held everyone up to as his standard. Okay, not a girl but his sweetheart. I loved reading about all the characters, some of whom you might remember if you have read the first book in the Bloomfield series. Excellent novel!

Want to Get Paid To Work With Brands? Try #Markerly!

Hi friends and fellow bloggers! I apologize for not being on recently but we have friends visiting from Alabama and things have been pretty hectic. Lots of volleyball and good times:) But I wanted to take a couple minutes and talk with you about making money with your blogging. I know many of my readers are people who love to blog for themselves. Whether you like to share with others or you do book reviews, etc. But one thing with blogging is that it takes time and you often don't get paid for it, other than receiving product. Not anymore! The company I want to tell you about today is Markerly. And through them you can get paid to work with brands!

First off, Markerly is very easy to join. They do have certain requirements for bloggers who want to become a part of their program. I was able to join early but they are still somewhat at the beginning of their network so right now is a good time to join. I have worked with many different programs and there are good things to it and bad things. But overall I have seen good from Markerly. I like that they send you an email with details on a project so that you don't have to follow a link and read the whole campaign detail. Believe me, it makes it easy to skim, see if it is something I am interested in and go from there. And some influencer programs do this. It makes it quite difficult. So that is an aspect of Markerly I really like.

Now, please make sure when you sign up with Markerly that you fill everything out. Give a lot of details about your blog so brands will want to work with you. I signed up a little while ago and have received a couple campaigns. No, I didn't sign up for them all but they are all interesting products. These are quality brands that are working with you. And you won't always get product but it could be payment for a sponsored post. If you want to make money while you are blogging, this is one way to do it. Payment prices are good and payout is quick. If you want to make a little cash, believe me it will not be a big amount, this is a company I would urge you to sign up with.

Common AC Repair Troubleshooting Tips

If your air conditioner is acting strangely, there are a number of things that could be wrong. It is wise to try troubleshooting your system before you call for AC repair in Austin. The problem may lie with a tree branch that is in the way, or it could be something complex that does require the work of professionals. Here are some troubleshooting tips to try before you call the professionals.

Check the Contractor Relay

One of the major problems with air conditioning systems is with the contractor relay. This system will switch power to your condenser fan and the compressor. If your system isn’t turning on, it could be a problem with the contractor relay. The part itself is only $30, but without the right experience, you could cause yourself more harm than good. One thing you can try doing is cleaning out your system, as small bugs often get attached to the contractor relay wires, causing damage.

Clean the Fans

Another issue that is often seen is when twigs and branches get lodged inside the fan unit. You will need to remove the fan guard to get inside the unit where you can clean out the twigs. Once you clean the twigs out, and you clean up the fan blades and check on the fan motor. A fan motor that needs to be replaced should be done by professionals as it can be a dangerous repair job. After cleaning the system, turn it back on to see if it worked. If the fan blades are not working, call a professional.

Capacitor

The area of the air conditioner that has the highest failure rate is the capacitor. You need to check on the start/run capacitor to find out if it causing a problem turning the air conditioner on. Usually, you can buy the part for a low cost, but getting to the part can be challenging. You need to make sure you are turning off all electricity to the unit, or it can electrocute you and can burn out the system. Since this can be a difficult part to work on, you should call companies offering AC repair in Austin to make the proper repairs.

How to Stay Sober amid Drinking Culture

If you have just finished a Florida alcohol treatment program, you may have completed your rehabilitation, but your struggle to stay sober is just beginning. All the sudden you’re thrown back into your regular life, and you’re back hanging out with your regular friends. A typical night out will probably involve visiting a club, bar, or other venue where alcohol is served, and the people who frequent these places belong to what is referred to as a “drinking culture.” These cultures vary depending on location, but many of them create a lot of pressure for those attempting to stay sober.

Staying Social
The easiest solution is to simply avoid going out to these types of places, but it can be difficult maintaining a social life while doing this. If you refuse to go to bars, clubs, or even restaurants where alcohol is served, your friends will likely leave you behind. You’re then faced with the difficult choice of risking your sobriety by going out anyway, or giving up on any social life whatsoever. Fortunately, there are ways to stay sober even while surrounded by others who are drinking.

Find Real Friends
If your friends are a part of the crowd urging you to drink when you go out, you might just need a new group of friends. A good friend will understand what you have struggled with in the past and will never ask you to drink or put you in a situation that might lead to drinking. A great friend will even intervene when it looks like you’re about to give in.

Try a New Location
Certain environments are simply toxic to those looking to stay sober, so it might help to find a new place to frequent with a healthier environment. Not every place that serves alcohol is filled with rowdy drink pushers. Try to find a place that provides free sodas to designated drivers, since you will often find yourself being designated as such. With the right friends and the right environments, you can still have a fun and fulfilling social life, spend time with friends who drink, and maintain your sobriety without throwing your Florida alcohol treatment out the window.

This is a guest post for the enjoyment of my readers.

Julie Klassen’s “The Dancing Master” giveaway and “All Things Jane” webcast 1/23!

The Dancing Master-
By Julie Klassen

Finding himself the man of the family, London dancing master Alec Valcourt moves his mother and sister to remote Devonshire, hoping to start over. But he is stunned to learn the village matriarch has prohibited all dancing, for reasons buried deep in her past.
Alec finds an unlikely ally in the matriarch’s daughter. Though he’s initially wary of Julia Midwinter’s reckless flirtation, he comes to realize her bold exterior disguises a vulnerable soul–and hidden sorrows of her own.
Julia is quickly attracted to the handsome dancing master–a man her mother would never approve of–but she cannot imagine why Mr. Valcourt would leave London, or why he evades questions about his past. With Alec’s help, can Julia uncover old secrets and restore life to her somber village…and to her mother’s tattered heart?
Filled with mystery and romance, The Dancing Master brings to life the intriguing profession of those who taught essential social graces for ladies and gentlemen hoping to make a “good match” in Regency England.

MY THOUGHTS-What a delightful book! I always enjoy picking up a novel by Julie Klassen because I know I will get my money's worth, and it will keep me turning pages into the middle of the night:) And this one definitely fit the bill for both of those reasons. This is over 400 pages but it is not one of those that drags on and you feel like it could have been done in half the amount of time. You will be drawn into it without any delay and believe me, it is worth the read.

This book has two stories in it and I have to tell you, I almost like the subplot better:) The main characters would be Alec Valcourt and Julia Midwinter. Julia is quite the flirt and seems to not care for anyone but herself. Alec is hardworking and loyal to a fault, even when it means taking the blame for someone else. He was my favorite of the two. Quite dashing as well;)

If you enjoy a novel with plenty of depth and people that make you like them, this is the book for you. I wanted to find out the mysteries between the characters and why dancing was outlawed in this city. Wonderful book that I would urge you to pick up. Loved it!!

ABOUT THE BOOK

At the onset of the Civil War, Seamus heeds his wife’s wishes to return to her beloved family farm in the South, where he takes a post as chaplain for General Stonewall Jackson’s brigade. As Seamus ministers to the troops, his sister Clare ministers in a different way—by being a powerful voice in the Northern cause toward freeing the slaves. All this while their youngest brother Davin, who became wealthy during the Gold Rush, struggles to find love and identity in a fallen world. It’s a clash of loyalties and beliefs that threaten the entire family, each of them trying to hear God’s encouragement in the midst of the tragedy of war. The dramatic conclusion to the acclaimed Heirs of Ireland Series.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Songs of the Shenandoah, go HERE.

MY REVIEW-This series, Heirs of Ireland, is one of my favorite series that deals with the Irish immigrants. And Clare is probably my favorite character. She is sweet but so strong!! Davin kinda irritated me. He has such an ego that thinks only of him. Seamus is my in-between person. I liked him at times but then something just put me off about him. Then I figured out what it was but I can't tell you all or it will give something away. But I do have to say, that shows a good author when characters have flaws. Anyways, if you enjoy a good long book that is interesting and will keep you turning pages, this is one to pick up. You will learn a lot of history!! But it won't feel like a school lesson:)

#Review of No One To Trust by Lynette Eason!! Great Suspense Novel!

She doesn't know who she's running from--and the man she loves may be someone else entirely?

Summer Abernathy wakes up one morning to find her husband missing, three men in her home intent on finding him, and the life she's been living based on a lie. Which Kyle Abernathy did she marry? The computer programmer she met in line at the bank? Or the one who was apparently using that image as a cover?

The search for her husband--and answers--takes Summer ever deeper into a world of organized crime where people are used one moment and discarded the next. And with her deepest relationship of trust already shattered, Summer doesn't know who to believe.

Always thrilling, bestselling author Lynette Eason outdoes herself in this taut, breakneck story of lies, loyalties, and love that will have you up all night to discover the truth hidden in the shadows.

MY REVIEW-Lynette Eason is one of my favorite suspense authors. So when I heard about her new series, I knew I had to get it. Imagine my enjoyment when it came up for review!! And let me tell you, this one is probably going in my top three, definitely top five this year. The opener just grabs you and you can't stop until the end.

Summer wakes up one morning to find out that her husband didn't come home the night before, and there is a strange man who is threatening her. And this man says her husband isn't who she thinks. Summer doesn't want to believe him. Her husband told her the one thing he would never do is lie to her. Can she trust him? Who really is the man she married?

This is a book that I think would be great turned into a film. There is a ton of action, adventure, mystery and even a little bit of romance. I felt so strongly for David/Kyle. I saw Summer's point of view but I could see where David was coming from. And no, I haven't been in that situation before so I don't know how I would respond. I like how you see the varying emotions from all the characters. Summer going from disbelief to anger and then just not facing things. David is the strong one throughout it, even though he hurts for his wife and he knows that it will take a while to gain back her trust, if it will ever happen.

Again, lots of great action and adventure throughout the book. You will keep flipping pages pages to get to the end and then you feel dropped! Can't wait for the next title in the series to release. Hopefully we get to see more of David's buddies. I loved his military friends:) If you like action, this is a must read. Even if you don't like adventure, I would urge you to take a chance and read it. You just might find yourself liking it. lol!

Herbal Essences Bare Naked Volume #Review from Walmart

Hey everyone, remember the post I did last month with the Walmart gift card giveaway and I was telling you about the new Herbal Essences Bare Naked Volume line? Well, here is my personal review of how I liked ordering from Walmart, things I liked about the new products and what I didn't care for. Check it out below!!

First off, the ordering experience. I have to tell you, it was one of the easiest things I have ever ordered online. I do quite a bit through stores online and Walmart was one of the best. It is quick, easy and pretty self-explanatory. And if by some chance you don't figure out what they are saying, there are little tips throughout to help. My order said it would be delivered within 10 days of placing it. Now, with the holidays and all I figured it might be a little bit late. But nope! It was actually early. I got it before Christmas!! Talk about fast:)

When I got the text that my order was in I raced in to pick it up. Okay, not quite raced but I was excited to get it and see what the hype was all about:) My first thought was how nice the packaging was. It comes all nice in a box and then you flip it open and everything is presented great. You can see the info about the products and then the products are arranged in a well done manner.

Try our entire Naked Volume Collection and discover the volume you’ve been craving.
Cleanse, Condition and Bare Your Softest Hair (shampoo and conditioner system usage)
Restore hair’s natural body with our Volume Shampoo and Conditioner with zero heavy residues, dyes and parabens. Start with Volume shampoo and gently massage into wet hair until it lathers. This weightless, volumizing wonder gives you a lift for fullness that lasts, while you delight your senses with a boost of grapefruit and mint.
Gently work in this mousse through wet hair for touchable, natural volume you can run your fingers through.

Now to try them out. I pretty much shower every day and I do my hair at that time. And I condition two-three times a week. My hair is very fine and long. So achieving volume without getting frizz as well is kinda hard. I was excited to try the shampoo and conditioner but not real sure about the dry shampoo. Just don't really use it. The mousse for volume was an extra I was happy to play with:)

The products worked great. I was happy with everything except the mousse. For some reason it just didn't work the way I thought it would. Remember though that my hair is long and thin so it takes more to get the volume I want. One of my favorite things about this set is the scent! It smells incredible! Very strong citrus with light mint tones. And you can almost feel it working in your hair. Kinda squeaky clean:)

This set is still available online at Walmart for 12.99. That is a great buy for a four piece set and I personally want to check out the other lines they have coming out. Be sure to purchase it if you want it though because I am not sure how long it will be available online.

Dr. David Chambers, leading archaeologist, has spent his professional career uncovering the facts in the artifacts. His work sets the standard for biblical research in the Holy Land. But surrounded by the evidence, David has sunk into an abyss of doubt. A painful experience with a seemingly unresponsive God has left him without hope.  The Old Testament scriptures that used to fi ll his mind with wonder now drive him to frustration. His unanswered questions have ripped him from both his academic pursuits and the love of his life, his fi ancée, Amber.
An old friend and mentor reaches out to David, enticing him with the riches described in the enigmatic Copper Scroll. Losing ground with his peers, his love, and his faith, David Chambers has a choice to make. Will he undertake one final dig to unlock a secret that could alter the course of history? Do the mysteries of the Old Testament hold the key to the political turmoil of the Middle East?
In a world where faith has been eclipsed by the allure of doubt, The Scroll offers a different journey: a gripping adventure to find truth worth dying for

MY REVIEW-Alton Gansky is one writer I have always enjoyed. His books are interesting and they definitely keep your attention. So I was hoping this one would be the same way. The plot sounded exciting, the characters were well written, but for some reason I just could not get into it. I passed it on to my local library in hopes that someone else would enjoy it.

Necessary Farm Supplies: Used Tractors and More

Running a farm is not to be taken lightly. Depending on the size of your land and the focus of your agriculture, you may be able to buy some equipment to make your life easier. You may need milking supplies, bale supplies, or used tractors in Texas. Continue reading for more information on these kinds of supplies.

Milking Supplies

If you are in the line of dairy, you probably want easier ways to perform the milking process. Milk machines are used when manual labor is too intensive or inefficient. If there are lots of cows and not enough people, then you might want to use a machine. It works by using a continuous vacuum. These machines are beneficial because they can keep contamination out of the containers. The inside of the machine will need to be washed manually, although there are some automatic models that will wash after milking is completed. These machines should be made from stainless steel or other materials that meet regulations for food handling. Milking machines also need electricity to operate.

Bale Supplies

Having a baler can be extremely helpful because this machine can compress and cut crops such as hay, straw, or cotton. Bales of hay are needed for easy transportation so that your hay-eating animals can eat with less work on your part. Some balers can create various sizes and shapes of bales, including rectangles or cylinder shapes. Cylinders make rolling easy, but that also causes a lot more movement when transporting by truck. Rectangles are easier to stack. You can transport using your own trucks or using a bale lifter.

Tractor Supplies

Tractors are probably the most useful supply a farmer could own because they’re so versatile in their uses. There are compact tractors and regular sized tractors, depending on the power and purpose you need it for. Plus, you can buy many different attachments for the front of these machines that can perform various tasks. Row crop tractors help you avoid crushing plants; standard tractors perform plowing; high crop tractors help harvest cotton or other high growing plants; and utility tractors help with landscaping. Buying used tractors in Texas can help you landscape, till, plant, disk, or plow your land at a reduced price.

Angry Birds Plush #Giveaway!!

Hey everyone, last month I was able to attend a very interesting Activision Twitter party. I learned about all the new games coming out and what would be up this coming year. As an attendee, I was sent a box of items to review, giveaway or give as gifts. Needless to say, I used many of them. But I saved something for one of my readers. And it just happens to be.... a plush Angry Birds!! Now, I am not a big fan of the game. I played it once or twice but I don't really get into those game apps. I guess I could think of better things to be doing. But it does seem to be a big hit and not just with the kids and teenagers.

This giveaway is for one big red angry bird. It would make a really good gift for a child, grandchild, or neighbor:) Still in the plastic bag with the tags so it can be wrapped pretty easy. I am sure it will be well loved!

Giveaway is open to US only as I am shipping this out. Will end 1/25 and winner will be chosen through Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be picked.

Dorothy Love’s “Carolina Gold” Southern Essentials $100 Visa Cash Card Giveaway and 1/14 Facebook Party!

CAROLINA GOLD
By Dorothy Love

The war is over, but her struggle is just beginning.
Charlotte Fraser returns to her late father’s once-flourishing rice plantation on the Waccamaw River, determined to continue growing the special kind of rice known as Carolina Gold. But Fairhaven Plantation is in ruins, the bondsmen are free, and money is scarce.
To make ends meet, Charlotte reluctantly accepts a position as tutor to the young daughters of Nicholas Betancourt, heir to the neighboring Willowood Plantation. Then Nick’s quest to prove his ownership of Willowood sends Charlotte on a dangerous journey that reveals an old family mystery—and threatens all that she holds dear.
Inspired by the life of a 19th century woman rice planter, Carolina Gold continues Dorothy Love’s winning tradition of weaving together mystery, romance, and rich historical detail, bringing to life the story of one young woman’s struggle to restore her ruined world.

MY REVIEW-Have you ever gotten so involved in a book you forget to do anything else? Well, that is how I felt with this new book from Dorothy Love. Carolina Gold delves into the state of South Carolina after the war between the states. You see people trying to get back to their normal lives and jobs. And one of those people is Charlotte Fraser. With both of her parents dead, she has to make a living. And she chooses to do what her father did. Grow Carolina Gold rice.

Charlotte is quite a spunky lady. She knows what she wants and does everything in her power to get it. Not saying that life always turns out the way we want it to or just because we want something we get it. But Charlotte rolls up her sleeves and works at it. Of course, there also happens to be a dashing widower with two children who asks her for help, in schooling his daughters. Charlotte knows that she isn't a teacher, but her way of teaching sounds good to me:)

I loved the history in this novel. Dorothy injects a lot of facts into her stories and this one is no different. Learning about the fever that hit Louisiana and the generals in the southern army made it interesting. A great book!! Can't wait to see what Dorothy has for her readers next.
