For Those Who Can’t Have Lasik, There’s PRK

If you are not a good candidate for Lasik, you might be a candidate for something called PRK at Hoopes Vision or some other place that performs the procedure. Your eyesight is important to you, and if you are tired of going to see 3D movies and having to wear two pairs of glasses, you might be looking into any way possible to get rid of your normal eyewear.
Photorefractive Keratectomy
You can probably deconstruct the words above to figure out a little bit about PRK, but the easy version is that PRK reshapes the cornea. This type of procedure was actually pioneered before Lasik surgery, and it involves removing a part of the cornea rather than making a flap. This means that recovery time may be longer than that for Lasik. However, if you are not a candidate for Lasik, comparing the two procedures doesn’t really help you – other than to give you an idea of what others are going through versus what you should expect.
Eyewear
Even if you like to wear eyewear, there are times when it is inconvenient, especially if you are physically active and fashion conscious. There have been some people who have worn goggles in professional sports like basketball, but if you choose to wear goggles, you can be sure that you will get some sarcastic comments about them. You might not be able to see without them, but no one really cares about that. If the goggles get broken, you may be done for the evening. If they fall down, you will be out for a play.
Glasses and Passes
While the old adage that men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses is changing, choosing to get PRK at Hoopes Vision or any other qualified eye doctor’s office may be one of the best decisions you have ever made. Your face will feel lighter, and going to 3D movies will only require that you wear the glasses to see the images coming out of the screen. For sports, you will be able to play without eyewear and without the sarcastic comments.

Wow. I have been wondering about Lasik for a while. I was one of the kids that had to wear goggles on the soccer field. :) Good to know there is another option if I don't qualify for Lasik. Thanks.
