Love At Any Cost By Julie Lessman

He's looking to take care of his family. She's looking to take care of her heart.
Trouble is . . . love's looking to take care of them both.

Cassidy McClare is a spunky Texas oil heiress without a fortune who would just as soon hogtie a man as look at him. Jilted by a fortune hunter, Cassidy travels west hoping a summer visit with her wealthy cousins in San Francisco will help her forget her heartache. But no sooner is she settled in beautiful California than Jamie McKenna, a handsome pauper looking to marry well, captures her heart. Can love prevail when Jamie discovers that Cassidy is poorer than he is? And can Cassidy ever learn to fully trust her heart to a man?

MY THOUGHTS-Julie Lessman is an author I enjoy reading. I guess you could say I follow her. Okay, maybe I love her books? Any way you put it, I have read them all and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This book is the start to a new series so I was kind of unsure about it. You know how it is with a series as long as her last one that you fall in love with the characters and you feel like you are leaving behind friends. So I was kind of bummed over that. But I was also happy to meet new friends and hopefully fall in love with them as much as I loved the O'Conner's. Because I am hopelessly in love with them:)

This new series takes you clear across the states to California. The opening pages are quite funny and it just keeps going from there. I had to laugh over the whole "sweet tea" exclamations and the nun going to a convent in cowgirl boots and carrying a lasso! You will meet a whole new clan that still reminds me much of the O'Conner's. And you gotta love the irish slant. Cass is a girl that has been jilted before and she knows better than to fall for a pretty boy. But she finds herself falling for Jamie, a friend of the family. What she doesn't know is that he loves her but won't marry her if she no longer has money. And he doesn't know that her family no longer has the money. So they find themselves at a crossroads. Will he chose the girl he loves? Or go with someone who can give him the money he wants? And will she learn to follow her heart and yet follow the Lord as well?

I have to admit, Jamie made me want to slap him a couple times. He is one of those handsome and he knows it types. But believe me, before I was in 50 pages I liked him a little. Okay, make that a lot:) There was one thing that bothered me and I guess it is nothing major, but I wanted to bring it up just in case someone else would have a problem with it. All throughout the book Cassidy is warned about not giving in to Jamie, especially with him not being a christian. Then she allows him to kiss her a couple times along with holding her, etc. Again, this is nothing major, but I felt it was a little odd. She feels strongly enough about it that she lays down rules that they don't kiss but then he sweet talks her and corners her so she gives in. Just not what you expect from her being so strong. I totally fell in love with Caitlyn. She is the more mature woman who gives out wisdom while learning the lessons herself. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of her and Logan. At least I hope so, hint hint:)

Overall a book I really enjoyed. Excellent dialogue that makes you laugh and yet makes you cry, characters that pull you into their lives and leave you feeling like you made a friend, and a plot that throws you for a loop while dragging you along. Loved it!!
