MY REVIEW-I have always enjoyed reading Kim's books. She has a way of writing that pulls you into the story and doesn't let you go until the final chapter. Sweet Sanctuary is the same way and I think this may have gone up into my top ten for this year. The genre is a little bit different from her normal style but I loved it just the same.
In this stand-alone novel you will meet Lydia and her sweet son Nicky. He is such a doll!! There is a story behind this but I don't want to give it away so you will have to find out yourself. And you will also be introduced to Dr Micah Hatcher, a man who has a big secret to hide which could mean life and death for certain people. I have to tell you, my favorite was Nicky:) He was so sweet and adorable you just have to like him. And don't get me started on Micah. Tall and handsome he is your typical stalwart hero. Just adored him! And then you have strong and yet vulnerable Lydia. She has worked so hard to keep Nicky that you root for her throughout the book.
This book is filled with rich historical tidbits. From the horrors of being a Jew persecuted by Hitler to the immigrants of New York City, the terrible use of drugs and even down to the position of ladies back then, you will learn and enjoy this novel. This is one I would feel comfortable giving to a teenager without any worries and yet it is definitely not boring. Excellent novel!
