The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz Book Review

Can love survive the secrets kept buried within a tormented heart?

Roxanna Rowan may be a genteel Virginia woman, but she is determined to brave the wilds of the untamed frontier to reach a remote Kentucky fort. Eager to reunite with her father, who serves under Colonel Cassius McLinn, Roxanna is devastated to find that her father has been killed on a campaign.

Penniless and out of options, Roxanna is forced to remain at the fort. As she spends more and more time with the fiery Colonel McLinn, the fort is abuzz with intrigue and innuendo. Can Roxanna truly know who the colonel is--and what he's done?

My Review-I have to tell you, I have totally been in love with Laura's books since I read her first one, The Frontiersman's Daughter. She has a wonderful, refreshing way of writing that I really enjoy. So I am sure you can imagine how anxious I was to get this book in for review. Would it live up to the others? Read below to find out:)

I LOVED THIS ONE! Roxanna is a fiery heroine who is quite the match for Cass. I love the whole Irish accent to this book and found the mystery quite interesting. There are several sub-plots in this book but I am quite happy to say, it is not confusing in the least! I was very shocked to find out at the end who the spy was. Never would have imagined it was that person from the beginning. And Laura does a great job showing the differences between the good brother and the evil brother.

One thing I love with Laura's books is the history. She weaves little bits of our countries history in between the pages of her novels and so, by the time you are done with her books, you have learned more about your country! This makes the book so much more interesting to me. And I love that it is not a dry history. I don't feel like I am reading a school book or anything. But I enjoy reading these and finding out little things that happened back then. The problems with alcohol, the Irish fighting for our country, etc.

The romance is just as good in this book as it is in her other ones. There is not a lot of kissing or anything but the tension is really good. And Roxanna is slowly falling in love with Cass but her mother made her promise something. I found this aspect very interesting. Overall I loved this book and I wouldn't have changed anything. Other than Cass and Roxanna making up sooner!! And the only thing I can say to Laura is, What about the next one!!!! Can't wait:D LOL!!

Available August 2011 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review purposes. I did not receive any monetary compensation. All thoughts are 100% mine.
