Book Review of The Inconvenient Marriage of Charlotte Beck

Wow! Talk about a mouthful:) Did you see the title of this new book? The Inconvenient Marriage of Charlotte Beck. Wowsa! This is a new book from Kathleen Y'Barbo. It is the third book in the Women of the West series and I was anxious to see how everything turned out. I have read the first two in the series and thought they were funny.

Unlikely romance is sometimes just an inconvenient marriage away

Charlotte Beck may be entering adulthood, but she can’t seem to keep to her stubborn, independent spirit from bucking social protocol. Fed up with her behavior, Charlotte’s father Daniel pressures her to settle into a nice marriage despite knowing she is set on going to college. Then Daniel sees Charlotte with the handsome but annoying English astronomer Alex Hambly, and everything changes.

Though Alex and Charlotte can barely stand one another, Daniel offers them a deal they can’t refuse: if they agree to marry, he will save Alex’s family from financial ruin and grant Charlotte the freedom to go to college. Reluctantly the couple agrees, but in private they plot to annul the marriage as soon as possible.

But when Alex’s feelings change and he refuses to dissolve their contract, will Charlotte find a way out of her vows? Or will she discover that maybe this marriage isn’t so inconvenient after all?

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love historical books. They are second only to mysteries:D I am a big fan of a good mystery book. But the old-fashioned historical book is one of my favorites. And this one by Kathleen is a great one! It is not my favorite out of the series but I enjoyed it. I think my favorite was the second one, Anna Finch and the Hired Gun. Kathleen has a way of putting lots of humor into a book without making it seem stupid or corny. I have put down books that others have really praised because I couldn't stand the almost stupid dialogue and humor. Not that way with this one!!

One of my favorite things in this series is that Kathleen interjects a Wild West hero into each story. In the last one it was Doc Holliday. In this one it is Wild Bill Cody. This really made the book interesting to me as it puts some history into the book, not just fun fiction:) The characters of Charlotte and Alex are very funny. They seem to have disaster whenever they cross paths. And the interesting part about Alex and his brother??? Not telling you much but you will have to read it to find out:)

There are several characters from the two previous books and they all show up in good form. The only thing I did not care for with this book was the cover. To me the young lady on the front looks like a child. Not a young woman. It was nothing major as the rest of the cover looks attractive but I thought I would mention it. If you love a good, entertaining historical book, look no further. This is a good one! If you would like to get a free download of the first chapter, please click here.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Sounds great, I to like the western historical parts of books especially when they use real people instead of made up characters.
