Skintactix Clear Skin Challenge!

Hey everyone, I have accepted the Skintactix Clear Skin Challenge. This looks like it will be really good and I love trying out new products so this is my idea of fun:) Basically I will be trying out this 3 piece kit for 30 days. I received my kit in last week but I wanted to wait to start it as I just got done with another acne program. This kit includes a Glycolic Cleanser, Glycolic Exfoliator and a Green Tea Poultice. I am going to start out doing two steps in the morning and all three in the evening. I have a feeling I will be cutting down to only two steps in the evening as well. For some reason my skin gets hot and red if I use a cleaner on it at night. So I normally just wash my face with water and continue with the other leave on treatments.

So, if this sounds like fun for you, please check out there webpage that tells about the blogger program. Maybe you can join up too! For me, mine started this past week and I will update you in 30 days with how I feel the program worked, if it cleared my skin, etc. And I will show before and after pics as well. So, make sure to stick around and check it out:) I can't wait to see how it works!

How I Keep My Family Happy.

Well, it has been a while since I have done a project for Social Moms. And I am sure you all have missed them. But I just another one today! Can't wait to get started on it:) It promises to be a fun one! And they are teaming up with Farm Rich on this one. So please read through this and let me know you are reading my posts. I love to hear from my readers!

The project today is to tell about how we keep our families happy. I know many people are probably saying it is pretty easy, but sometimes one person has a different idea than another and we can help each other out. So here goes:)

One main thing I do is keep them happy with food. You know all about that I am sure! Often a good meal can turn everyone into mellow, happy to please people. I personally love going all out at meal times. Make sure everyone is at the table, yep, we like to eat together, and set the meal up to be a treat! Including setting the table fully. That means napkins, silverware, etc. Not everyone has a family to eat with so make it extra special for yours:)

Another way to keep them happy is to keep them busy. Whether through chores, homework, or just being busy through fun things. A worker is normally happy and in a better mood. I know children often tend to get grumpy but if you take the time to make it fun they will be happier. And this helps you out too. You know the old saying, "If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" And it is so true! If they help take the load off you, everyone will be happier:)

And my last way to keep the family happy is to play with them. Yes, that includes the adults too! Get the family together around the table for a part game, include the kids in dominoes or the newest card game(Family friendly of course), or go play in the park! We love playing Scrabble Slam and Ratuki with the whole family! It gets everyone involved and we have a great time. Make sure to include the snacks too:) Our favorite is popcorn with flavored cheese on it or ice cream. You gotta love it! You just have to make sure play stays friendly and the aggressive players stay calm:) Won't be a happy family if someone gets upset they are losing.

I have learned that if everyone helps each other out, we will often stay happier. As a person and as a family. Take the time to show them you care. It will always help in the end:D

Now, let me know in a comment how you help your family stay happy. I love to read what you all post on my blog and others read it as well. I want to hear from you!!

I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Farm Rich blogging program, for a gift card worth $25. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Bare Minerals Skincare and Cosmetics.

I don't know about you, but I am not one to wear a lot of makeup. In fact, I barely wear any at all:) Bu I found this company recently called Bare Escentuals Mineral Makeup. Now, that is what I want! Only bare cosmetics! Where it looks like I don't have anything at all.

Anyways, they have recently come out with Bare Minerals Skincare! Not only do they do cosmetics but now they have skincare. This is great as you can purchase all your products together and not worry about shopping at 2 different places. And if you already like their makeup, why not try out the skincare? I am hoping to try it out! I think the Purifying Facial Cleanser sounds like something I would like to try! Tell me in a comment what product you think you would like to try from their new Skincare line? And make sure to follow them on Twitter or Facebook to keep up to date on what is going on.

Beanstalk Express Giveaway for Parents.

Well, today I have a giveaway for those of you with children. This is a pretty neat product and I think it is a great idea! So make sure to check it out and get your entries in:)

www.beanstalkexpress.com

New information from the US Department of Health and Human Resources reveals that despite national efforts to curb childhood obesity here in the US, rates are still climbing! Because the years of preventing childhood obesity are over by the time our children reach kindergarten, parents need products that offer a fun and practical approach to teaching their children balanced nutrition! And we have it!

Welcome to Beanstalk Express, the home of the world’s first snacktivity game, The SnackTime survival kit At Beanstalk Express, we’re parents too! And like you, we also envisioned raising fruit-and-veggie loving eaters, avoiding processed foods and “just saying no!” to drive through windows! But then something happened along the way … We had kids!

After enduring the preschool battles with picky eaters and around-the-clock requests for sweets and goodies, we realized what was missing when it comes to inspiring our kids with healthy habits that will last … Food marketers have been making junk food fun for decades. So what if we made healthy choices just as much fun? We decided to try it … and it worked! When you empower children with the ability to make their own choices, amazing things happen! At Beanstalk Express, we make healthy fun! And in the process, they become habit!

Wooden Clock Board

Features one working clock, 3 control clocks with moveable arms, and 3 corresponding hooks to hold snack cards in place.

33 Snack Cards

On the front are pictures of delicious snacks to choose from. On the back is important tips and information to learn from.

How it works!

1.Each morning, Mom or Dad selects between 4-6 snack cards that are available to make that day from the deck.

2.From these cards, kids can choose their 3 snacks for that day.

3.Mom sets the control clocks to the desired snack times and hangs the snack cards on the corresponding hooks.

4.And now it's up to the kids! By Keeping an eye on the clocks, the kids alert Mom to when it's SNACK TIME!

5.Mom takes the snack card off the hook and serves up the snack.

Online Shopping at Become.

I have become a big fan of shopping online. In this day and age it has become so much easier in many ways than in store shopping. You can purchase things cheaper, get fast shipping and if there is a problem, it is pretty easy to make returns or exchanges. One place I found recently that I like to browse is Become. They have lots of neat items and pretty good prices!

I mean, really, look at these moon chairs:) Have you ever seen anything like this before! They are really cute for children.

Now, in our house we like vintage looking items. And they have dressing tables with mirror that I think would look really good in this setting. And if you are looking for something more modern, like for your teenager, check out their seventeen bedding. I have to say though, some of those pieces I would love to have:) So if you are looking for good products at cheap prices, make sure to check this website out.

I have not purchased from this site. All thoughts are 100% mine.

Beautyfix Review and Giveaway! You Don't Want to Miss This!!

Okay, so I told you all I was getting back into giveaways. Well, this is absolutely one you do not want to miss! I am a big fan of beauty items. You would have to see my bathroom cabinets and you would know that I like to pick up shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc. Most of the time it is on clearance so I am not spending a whole lot, but it gets to be a lot in my cabinets! So, when I saw this company while surfing the web I just knew I had to write them:) Beautyfix! Now, just wait until you see what they do.

1
COMPLETE YOUR BEAUTY PROFILE
Spend just a few minutes filling us in on your unique beauty and skin care concerns.
2
OUR PANEL RECOMMENDS PRODUCTS JUST FOR YOU
Based on your beauty profile, our panelists handpick a large selection of products they know you'll love for that season.
3
YOU PICK YOUR PRODUCTS
From the panelists' selections, you'll choose the 8 products you want to receive and always pay only $49.99.

Okay, I was amazed at this! You go in and complete your profile, filling in what type your hair is, if your face is combination, etc. Then it gives you a whole list of items you can choose from based on your profile! And you can pick 8 items. Now, here is the catch. You know how many times you pay full price for a product and then you don't care for it? It doesn't seem to do what it says it will? Well, with this website you can order some products and try them out. Then if you like them you can purchase the full product. Ordering through this site gets you several smaller sized products to try. It works out great!

So, for my choices I got the Exuviance Rejuvenating Treatment Mask, IQ Derma Firmeceuticals Firming Gel, 3LAB Perfect Cleansing Foam, Chella Enzyme Exfoliating Crema Mask, Jonathan Create Smooth Anti-Frizz Volume Serum, Jonathan Create Motion, Jonathan IB Revitalizer and Philip B Chocolate Milk Body Wash and Bubble Bath. And this all came in a cute quilted case!

Now, I am going to tell you about these products and how I liked them but I am going to save the best ones for last:) The Firming Gel was probably my least favorite. I don't think I read the description enough and didn't realize what it actually was. But that is not the fault of the product or the company, it was mine. this smelled really good and I applied it daily but I can't really say I saw a change at all.

The Exuviance Mask was next. I liked it but I think the other mask was better than this one. It made my face feel all tight and tingly:) Overall I liked it and it worked well.

The Chella Crema Mask was my favorite of the masks. It went on easily and came off nicely. I liked how it smelled and it really made my face feel good. I would have to say that I rarely use a mask in my daily face cleaning. So it was nice to get a couple to try out. And I was really amazed how it made me feel better. My face felt nice and smooth and tight.

Now the Jonathan products I really, really liked! This brand is not one I have heard of before and I was excited to try them out. What woman doesn't like trying out hair products:) Needless to say, these are good! I am not really one to do much more to my hair than shampoo and conditioner. Once a week I use a cleansing shampoo and once every two weeks I use a deep moisturizing conditioner. So I normally don't do all the extras:) Occasionally I use a hair serum when I straighten my hair. Out of these products I would have to say my favorite was the Revitalizer. You put this in your hair overnight and it is basically an oil. They do say to put a towel on your pillow so it doesn't leave a stain on it. But I have to tell you, the feel of my hair in the morning was wonderful! Even after washing my hair it was great! Very soft, pliant and smelled wonderful too:) This was my favorite out of the hair products.

The Create Motion was good. I used it before blow-drying my hair and it created some volume and movement. It didn't do as much as I thought it would and that is why it is not my favorite. I just expected a little more movement. But overall I liked it. And the Jonathan products smell great! The Serum was my least favorite of the Jonathan products. I guess because I have used other serums before this one just didn't live up to par. It didn't seem to smooth like most but more like it was sticky? And I tried it several times to check and make sure I was using it right. Just didn't seem to work.

Now, I have saved the best two products for last. These were my favorite out of the whole lot and I would definitely buy these from a store or website.

The 3LAB Cleanser is a facial cleanser that I used every morning. I did not use it at night because I rarely wash my face with a cleanser in the evening. It seems to really dry my face out. But I used this every morning. And I LOVED it!! It has a lovely citrus scent and it works really good! It made my face very smooth and helped with my daily regimen.

And my absolute favorite was the.... Philip B Chocolate Milk Body Wash and Bubble Bath!! Yep! This stuff really smells like chocolate milk! I couldn't believe when it came in and I opened the container. I had to hide this and keep it away from my mother, who wanted it as soon as she smelled it:) This foams nicely and works great but the best draw is the smell. It stays forever and the scent is on your skin, unlike a lot of soaps I use. This was my favorite out of them all!

Now, I have to say my biggest thing with this website is that you can purchase these products for only 49.99 and free shipping. This can be done on a program and you can schedule your purchases. My order was placed within a day or two and I received it within about a week of ordering. It was fast shipping and they were very courteous. I would say this is a great company with a wonderful idea!

Readers, I have been offered the opportunity to giveaway one time of you ordering a Beautyfix order. You get to go in and fill out your profile and then pick your 8 items. So, one of you will be loving this company:) You know the drill, follow the directions below and get your entries in.

US ONLY!

MANDATORY ENTRY-
Go to Beautyfix and fill out your profile. Then tell me one of the products that you can choose. This is pretty easy to do and only takes a couple minutes. But I want you to see how easy it is to do and how many wonderful products you get to choose from.

Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews Blog Tour

Hey friends,
I have another book review for you this week. Seems I am doing a lot of those recently and not as many giveaways but I am getting back to those next week. Got a lot of neat things coming up:) But, today I have a book review for Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews. Again, I will tell you some about the book and it's story and then let you know how I liked it.

How Could Job Explain to His Wife That The Life They Once Knew Was Gone?

“No, not my children! El Shaddai, Al-Uzza, by the gods, not my babies!”
“Come, wife,” said Job with a sudden and unexplained calm. “Only one God can help us.”

Drawing characters directly from the Bible and others from historical texts, Mesu Andrews, author of Love Amid the Ashes, weaves new threads into Job’s story, creating a novel that breathes new life into an ancient tale of suffering and redemption. Andrews began her research at Multnomah University and expanded her studies to include rabbinic traditions, giving readers of Love Amid the Ashes a unique understanding of Hebrew customs during Biblical times. Most imagine Job sitting on the ash heap, his life in shambles. But how did he get there? What was Job's life like before tragedy struck? What did he think as his world came crashing down around him? And what was life like after God restored his wealth, health, and family? Andrews tells the story through the eyes of the women in Job’s life. Drawing together the account of Job with those of Esau's tribe and Jacob's daughter Dinah, Love Amid the Ashes breathes life, romance, and passion into the classic biblical story of suffering and steadfast faith.

Mesu Andrews is an active speaker who has devoted herself to passionate and intense study of Scripture. Harnessing her deep understanding and love for God's Word, Andrews brings the biblical world alive for her readers in this debut novel. She lives in Washington.

MY REVIEW-I had a really hard time with this book. I have always loved the story of Job and so this was a book I wanted to read and see how it portrayed him. You know how sometimes books written about Bible characters can really open your eyes about the story? I was hoping that is what this one would be like.

My first reaction was that I liked the cover. It is very drawing and has a nice attraction to it. When I was first reading the book I really enjoyed it. The author has a good way of writing and I was impressed. But then a little more into the book I just got turned off I guess. I finished the book and learned a few things but in a way it was hard to finish it. The relationship between Dinah and Job just seemed off to me from the beg. I guess when you have a man whose son is going to marry the woman it seems kind of funny that they are attracted to each other. I just didn't like that part. And then I thought after Sitis turned back to Yahweh that her and Job would be happy together but it doesn't happen.

I did like the description of the time period and the area. I like learning more about what it was like in Bible times and I think this author did a good job in her research. I just wish this had been a normal fiction novel instead of a novel about Job and Dinah. Other people may really enjoy this book and not find a fault in it, please don't take what I say and not buy the book. But I have to be honest in my review of how I liked the book. I would love to see her next book and I will read it. I like to read more than one book, or even a series, by an author before I never read something from them again. There has been many a time that I read a book I loved and then read another one and hated the book:) So I like to give every author another chance.

The Mountains Bow Down Blog Tour

I was recently given the opportunity to review a book that I wanted to tell you all about. I am a part of the blog tour and really liked this book:) Sibella Giorella did an excellent job with this one, The Mountains Bow Down. I am going to give you some information about the book and the author and then I will give you my review of it. You don't want to miss this book!!

Everything's going to work out. Time away always makes things better . . .. That's what FBI Special Agent Raleigh Harmon believes as she boards a cruise to Alaska . A land of mountains and gems and minerals, The Last Frontier is a dream destination for this forensic geologist who's hoping to leave behind a hectic work schedule and an engagement drained of romance. But when a passenger goes missing and winds up dead, Raleigh 's vacation suddenly gets lost at sea. The ship's security chief tries to rule the death a suicide, but Raleigh 's forensics background points to a much darker conclusion: Somewhere onboard, a ruthless murderer walks free. Engulfed by one of her toughest cases yet, Raleigh requests assistance from the FBI and receives her nemesis-perpetual ladies man Special Agent Jack Stephanson. As the cruise ship sails through the Inside Passage, Raleigh has five days to solve a high-profile murder, provide consultation for a movie filming onboard, and figure out her increasingly complicated feelings for Jack-who might not be such a jerk after all. And that's only her work life. Family offers even more challenges. Joined on the cruise by her mother and aunt, Raleigh watches helplessly as disturbing rifts splinter her family. Like the scenery that surrounds the cruise ship, Raleigh discovers a situation so steep and so complex that even the mountains might bow down.

Sibella Giorello grew up in Alaska and majored in geology at Mount Holyoke College . After riding a motorcycle across the country, she worked as a features writer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Her stories have won state and national awards, including two nominations for the Pulitzer Prize. She now lives in Washington state with her husband and sons. Find out more about Sibella and her other books at her website. www.sibellagiorello.com

MY REVIEW-Now, I am going to tell you my thoughts about this book but please make sure to read to the end as there is a really, really neat contest!!

I read the previous book in this series and I was not real impressed. But I am always more than happy to read the next book in the series and give an author a second chance. I have really enjoyed a book and searched for another one by the same author and been really letdown, so I know it can happen the other way around as well. So, when I got this one in I was kind of torn. Would I really like it or would I wish I hadn't read it? I think you know the answer to that question:)

This is the next book in the series and I wanted to find out what happened to Raleigh. Don't you love that name:) It is very different and exudes a sense of adventure without even knowing much about the character. I found myself not liking Jack at first. I guess it took a while to warm up to him. I didn't really like her fiance though either. I was torn between both of them and not sure who I wanted Raleigh to end up with:) I love when an author does this but at the same time I don't like it. I am the type of person who wants the guy she rejects to be bad, not just a good guy that she doesn't feel led to marry. But.. I have to leave this hanging because it don't want to spoil anything. You gotta go buy the book if you want to find out:)

Overall this was an excellent book. There were a couple little things I didn't care for but you find that in any book you read. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series;)

Now, on to the contest. I am sure you all are dying to find out what it is. Well, read on!

Beautiful Skin Revealed Book Giveaway!

Hey all, today I have a giveaway for a really nice book. Beautiful Skin Revealed can be used for women and might even be a good coffee table book. I wish I could get a copy for review as this looks like a beautiful book! And it is valued at $59.95!! Read about it below and then follow directions to enter the giveaway:)

The marketing and sale of cleansers, moisturizers, cosmeceuticals, and cosmetics is a multibillion-dollar industry. How do you navigate through the maze of products and promises? Which combination of treatment options, potions and lotions is the real deal?

In an effort to separate fact from fiction, Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Paul Friedman, has co-authored the book Beautiful Skin Revealed: The Ultimate Guide to Better Skin.” This comprehensive book offers an expert’s insider view on common skin conditions and treatments that really work, in addition to offering tips on how to maximize the time with your dermatologist. According to Dr. Friedman, “The book is grounded in science and explains why conditions occur. Using before and after photos and real patient testimonials, Beautiful Skin Revealed” shows readers the incredible results made possible through the latest treatment options.” Below, Dr. Friedman offers a sneak-peek from his book, available for purchase at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com

The book contains 12 chapters including sections on: Complexion, Acne, Wrinkles, Flusing, Birthmarks, Eyes, Leg Veins, Skin Cancer, Scars and Stretch Marks, General Dermatology, Products, and finally Choosing a doctor.

Acne – Not Just an Issue for Teens

Blame it on stress, the environment, or hormones - the truth is that acne is not limited to teenagers. “It may surprise you to learn that one in five adults between the ages of 25 and 44 experiences acne. In fact, some find their acne is worse in adulthood than it was during puberty,” says Dr. Friedman. In his book, Dr. Friedman offers solutions for current acne breakouts as well as for scars caused by past acne blemishes.

  • Lasers. “In the past five years lasers have been found in multiple studies to reduce not only acne lesions but also improve acne scars.” When considering laser treatment, Dr. Friedman suggests reviewing all of the options available to become an informed participant in the initial consultation with your dermatologist. “A great option for patients experiencing both acne lesions and acne scarring is the 1450-nm diode laser by Candela®.”

Rosacea: Red All Over

“Notable flushing, diffuse redness, and visible facial blood vessels may point to one of the most under diagnosed, yet prevalent and frustrating skin conditions affecting adults. It is called rosacea,” Dr. Friedman explains. He notes that although the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, there are several treatment options available.

  • “Pulsed-Dye Laser Treatments target broken blood vessels and background redness. Redness caused by rosacea responds very well to a series of laser treatments. Since rosacea is a chronic condition, periodic maintenance treatments are required after the initial series.”

Leg Veins: Reveal Simply Beautiful Legs

Summertime clothing can draw attention to the legs. Visible veins on the legs are a common concern affecting 80% of women in the United States. Spider veins can become more prominent as we age and with jobs requiring prolonged standing.

  • “Sclerotherapy, which is best for the treatment of spider veins and reticular veins, can be combined with the long-pulsed 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser. Patients who want to improve the appearance of their legs need to have the treatment about three to six months ahead of shorts and swimsuit season,” according to Dr. Friedman.

Injections for Wrinkles without the Pain

“Today’s experienced physicians can help patients achieve varying degrees of improvement,” Dr. Friedman notes. “The best doctors will insist on creating a natural look.”

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers mixed w/lidocaine are one of the most exciting new developments Dr. Friedman offers his patients. “Now, injections for fine lines and deeper wrinkles are given in combination with lidocaine, a numbing agent typically used at the dentist’s office. The result is less discomfort from the injection process.”

Notable Breakthroughs: Fraxel re:store DUAL Laser for Actinic Keratosis

Actinic Keratosis, or AKs, are common precancerous lesions caused by sun exposure, affecting between 11% and 26% of people in the U.S. over the age of 40. According to Dr. Friedman, “The Fraxel re:store DUAL Laser is a potential option to replace traditional treatments for AKs such as freezing through liquid nitrogen. This high tech laser allows for a larger area of the skin to be treated at each visit. Patients have also been pleased with the added benefits they notice, such as improvement of their skin texture and pigmentation.”

Dr. Friedman notes, “Good skin requires maintenance. With the help of a daily sunblock, a good moisturizer, and a topical retinoid, healthy skin has an even surface that glows. Cosmeceuticals and cosmetics can enhance the foundation achieved with a solid skincare regimen and dermatologic procedures.”

A Brand New Family Guest Post

Guest post written by Brenda Lindley

Now that my husband has a new job, we've been talking very seriously about moving from an apartment to our own house in the suburbs. This is something we've been dreaming of and it looks like we are closer to our goal than ever. This is very exciting, because once we have a house; we can finally start thinking about having a few children and forming a family of our own. It's incredible how fast time has gone by. We got married in our early twenties and we've been working for several years now and it's finally about time to start a brand new chapter in lives. It seems like just yesterday we were high school and now we are about to obtain a higher level of adulthood. It's really different to think about. We've looked at a local housing website or two, and we've found some great options. This is something that we need to put a lot of thought into, as we are probably going to be in this new place for many years. It's an incredible feeling to now be at this stage of life together. I am very much looking forward to the future days that come.

Optimized Cable Company

Hey friends,
Do you have internet at your home? Do you use wireless or Ethernet? I have a wireless router but I have heard that ethernet is very good too. I just recently heard about this place called Optimized Cable Company and they have cat-5 cables which are used for ethernet.

This company also carries Optimization-World cables, which are very cheap and very useful. If you are looking for cables for your internet, etc. this might be a place to look.

I have not purchased from this place nor have I tried their products. All thoughts are 100% mine.

Bathsheba by Jill Eileen Smith Blog Tour

I was able to be in the blog tour for Bathsheba by Jill Eileen Smith. I will tell you my thoughts about it after I tell you about the book.

Can She Ever Find Redemption After One Night of Passion with the King?

“As the last word dried on the page, Bathsheba read the message through blurred vision. ‘I am with child’. She would not sign her name or address the message. He would know by the press of her husband’s seal on the wax...”

Bestselling author Jill Eileen Smith brings to life the Bible’s most famous story of passion, betrayal and redemption in the conclusion of The Wives of King David series, Bathsheba (ISBN: 978-0-8007-3322-3 $14.99, March 2011). Smith draws from Scripture, in-depth historical research and her vivid imagination to unveil the story of David’s most famous wife - Bathsheba. Bathsheba is told in rich detail and drama, creating a riveting page-turner that will keep readers engaged to the conclusion of the book.

Bathsheba is a woman longing for love. With her devout husband, Uriah, away fighting the king's wars for many months at a time, discontent and loneliness dog her steps--and make it frighteningly easy to succumb to King David's charms. Though she immediately regrets her involvement with the powerful king, the pieces are set in motion that will destroy everything she holds dear. Can she find forgiveness at the feet of the Almighty? Or has her sin separated her from God--and David--forever?

Bathsheba reveals the depth of God’s grace and forgiveness. You will never read the story of David and Bathsheba in the same way again.

Jill Eileen Smith has more than twenty years of writing experience, and her writing has garnered acclaim in several competitions. Her research into the lives of David's wives has taken her from the Bible to Israel, and she particularly enjoys learning how women lived in Old Testament times. Smith is the author of the bestselling Michal and Abigail and lives with her family in southeast Michigan.

MY REVIEW-I have to tell you, I am very torn on this review. I like reading books about Bible times but I think authors have to be very careful in their writing and make sure they don't take too much liberty. That is why I am kind of undecided about what rating I would give this book. I have read one by Jill before and I really liked it so I knew I would enjoy this one as well. And I was not disappointed. I love her style of writing and her thoughts are well written. But I still think she took some liberty in her story. And like I said, I have read books before about Bible times and I realize they are novels so not everything is going to be fact so I have to remember that as well.

This book did open my eyes to the pain that both David and Bathsheba went through. And this is where I enjoy reading novels about Bible times. I will never read the story of David and Bathsheba again without taking the time to think about how they felt. I think this helps as well with reading the Bible period. I almost felt how Bathsheba had a war within herself over to obey the King or not. A very difficult decision and in a time where women were taught to obey the men in authority no matter what.

Overall I would probably give this a 4 out of 5. The only thing I did not like was the liberty taken with some of the writing. I don't how if Bathsheba really was bitter at her husband, Uriah, etc. But this book lived up to my expectations of another book from Jill!!

The Key to the Kingdom: Unlocking Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom

Deep River Books (December 1, 2010))

***Special thanks to Arielle Roper of Bring It On! Communications for sending me a review copy.***

MY THOUGHTS-This book is new for me and I have never heard of a plot like this. Kind of had me excited to read it and find out what would happen:)

The author opens with a sentence or two that really pulls you into the book. You feel the excitement and the thrill of this man venturing into the unknown. I love it! When you read the first page of a book, that really tells you a lot about the book. Does it pull you in or make you feel like you have to push to finish it? This one was definitely a puller!

It has a lot of twists and turns in it and I was really interested throughout the whole book. Jeff has a style of writing that is unique and I don't think I have seen his type before. Overall I liked the book and it made me think. Farren was a character and I loved him at the beginning. It took me longer to like Grayson but it did happen and I was rooting for him at the end. Looking forward to what this author will come out with next!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

AND NOW...THE FIRST CHAPTER:

Day One

Night

Halogen headlamps pierced the darkness of the cool central Florida night. The GPS guided the Mustang surging toward the coastal community of Port Orange. Racing along Taylor Road, Dr. Grayson Hawkes approached an unknown destination. Questions swirled in the tornado of curiosity whipping through the preacher’s mind. The glow of the dashboard light illuminated the business card propped against the gearshift; “1819 Taylor Road, Port Orange” had been neatly printed in blue ink. Flipping the card he read the name on the other side.

Farren Rales

Imagineering Ambassador

Walt Disney Company

Reading the name of his dear friend brought a slight smile to his face. Rales had been hired by the late Walt Disney himself as an animator at the Walt Disney Studios on Rales’s thirtieth birthday. In the years that followed he had worked on animated features, been involved in projects at Disneyland, and eventually became a part of that exclusive group of creative Walt Disney Company designers known as Imagineers. Rales was part Disney historian, part Disney philosopher, and a modern day keeper of the dream that Walt himself had begun.

Farren Rales had given him the business card with an invitation to meet the old Imagineer at ten o’clock this evening. The GPS announced a turn seconds before an inconspicuous dirt road veered to the right. Hawk responded sluggishly and shot past it. He instantly banked his ride into a U-turn that corrected his course. Slowly navigating the heavily wooded, chassis-jarring dirt road, he watched for signage. The headlights threw a glow on a sign that read Gamble Place Parking with an arrow that pointed right. He turned the wheel. A gate immediately came into view, blocking forward progress. Hawk looked over the steering wheel trying to decide whether he had managed to bungle the directions and gotten hopelessly lost. With the car idling, he got out and walked to the gate. Grasping the chain that held the gate closed, he saw the lock had been secured to the chain, but the chain was not fastened. When he dropped the chain, the gate lazily swung open. Hawk slid back behind the wheel of the car and it crawled forward as the dirt became softer below the tires. The Mustang eased up to a parking barrier, above which the headlights shone on a yellow house trimmed in green.

Exiting the automobile, Hawk left the parking area and made his way toward the house. There was a display in front of the walkway to the house that probably explained where he was. The automatic timer for the headlamps clicked off, leaving him standing in darkness. Sensing his eyes would never adjust in the moonless night to read the display, he remembered a flashlight that was hopefully still in the trunk of the car. He retraced his steps. In addition to the soft sound of his shoe steps in the sand, Hawk thought he heard something else moving near him. He came to an abrupt halt. Rales? Listening closely, he now only heard the sounds of the outdoor evening. The trunk popped open, producing a blast of light that momentarily blinded him. He fumbled for the flashlight and flicked the switch. The beam shone strongly as he slammed the trunk shut. He again moved toward the house. Sweeping the beam around him, he saw a large historical marker looming in the dark, over his left shoulder. He refocused the attention of the light on this newly discovered sign.

Gamble Place

In 1898, James N. Gamble, of the Proctor and Gamble Company and a longtime winter resident of Daytona Beach, bought this land on Spruce Creek for use as a rural retreat. In 1907 he built a small cracker cottage with an open front porch and a breezeway connecting a separate kitchen and dining room . . . In 1938, Gamble’s son-in-law, Alfred K. Nippert, completed the “Snow White House,” a Black Forest style cottage inspired by the Disney animated film classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The house is surrounded by a Witch’s Hut, the Dwarfs’ Mine Shaft, and an elaborate network of rock gardens. Collectively these buildings and grounds form a historic landscape now known as Gamble Place. This property was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Obviously Rales had asked Hawk here because of the Disney connection. It had been a Disney connection that had started the friendship between the two men. Hawk had been introduced to Rales and asked the Imagineer if he would meet with him and his church staff to teach them the art of storytelling. The first meeting had gone so well it turned into a standing appointment each month. However this evening the invitation was for Hawk alone. Sighing deeply in an attempt to relax, Hawk listened closely and his ears tuned in to the sound of water gently playing along an unseen shoreline. The unexpected snap of a branch unleashed a wave of adrenaline spinning him in the direction of the noise. He peered into the blackness of the trees, searching for the maker of the sound, but heard nothing.

“Farren, is that you?” Hawk spoke with a bit more edge than he anticipated.

Silence confirmed Rales was not the source of the sound. “So when did you get so scared of the dark?” he muttered to himself. “And when did you start talking to yourself?”

Out of the corner of his vision he noticed a glimmer of light across the wooded darkness. With a bit of reservation he moved toward it. His shoes cracked sticks and crushed leaves, creating a symphony of sound that shattered the haunting noises of nature that had moments ago surrounded him. His flashlight began to dim. Shaking it violently he resurrected the brilliance of the beam, only to watch it fade into a momentary glow, and then disappear completely.

“Tremendous,” he said in frustration at the malfunctioning light. “Still talking to . . . and answering yourself.”

The point of light he had been moving toward disappeared as well. Pressing onward, he drew nearer to where it had been. Once again it appeared and this time looked brighter and stronger. Hawk’s trudging through the undergrowth yielded to softer ground as he heard a familiar voice cut quietly through the night.

“I began to think you weren’t going to make it.”

“I was starting to think you were playing a practical joke on me,” Hawk whispered back.

“Now, would I do that to you?” Rales laughed softly.

Hawk could now see much better as he approached the place where Rales stood. Farren had brought a lantern that illuminated the place he was standing and cast long shadows in multiple directions. Hawk descended the steps to join Rales on what appeared to be a recently created platform. The sound of the creek was closer and Hawk assumed they were now on the edge of the river. Rales was dressed in a pair of black slacks with a lightweight black windbreaker. Hawk did not miss the stealth attire and was getting ready to comment on it when Rales again spoke in a hushed tone.

“Any trouble finding the place?”

“I suppose not, since it’s out in the middle of nowhere!” Hawk decided to satisfy his curiosity. “And could you tell me why we’re whispering?”

“Didn’t you read the sign? We’re in a state park. It closed at dusk. We could get arrested for being here.”

“Then why didn’t we come here in the daylight?”

“Now, that wouldn’t be as much fun, would it?”

“Farren, we should clarify our definitions of fun.”

“Breaking into a state park is a story you’ll be able to tell for years!”

“I didn’t break in, the gate was unlocked.”

“So you opened it and drove on in.”

“You invited me.”

“Shhh,” Rales interrupted.

Hawk grew quiet and strained to hear sounds coming out of the darkness. He studied Rales’s tense features, trying to decide whether the old man was toying with him or was actually concerned that they might be caught after hours in the park. Rales’s face softened and he turned away from Hawk, letting his lantern shine toward a nearby wooden cottage that looked as if it had been plucked off of an animation cell from an antique piece of film. Hawk’s mouth opened slightly. Rales moved forward and panned the light across the front of this cottage that did not belong in this time or any other. It was recognizable as the cottage in the Black Forest of the classic cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Hawk’s eyes followed the movement of the lantern to the carved lintel and a stone trough. Rales moved toward the front door, fumbled with the handle, and then opened it. Looking back to Hawk, he motioned for him to follow him inside. Hawk entered, feeling like he was stepping into a fairy tale as Rales silently closed the door behind them.

Trail of Ink by Mel Starr Blog Tour

Hey all, today is another blog tour with an author I have never read before. I will tell you some about the book and then give you my thoughts of it. Please make sure to check out the other blog stops as well which are listed on Facebook.

About A Trail of Ink:

An excellent medieval whodunit by the author of The Unquiet Bones and A Corpse at St Andrew's Chapel

Some valuable books have been stolen from Master John Wyclif, the well known scholar and Bible translator. He calls upon his friend and former pupil, Hugh de Singleton, to investigate. Hugh's investigation leads him to Oxford where he again encounters Kate, the only woman who has tempted him to leave bachelor life behind, but Kate has another serious suitor. As Hugh's pursuit of Kate becomes more successful, mysterious accidents begin to occur. Are these accidents tied to the missing books, or to his pursuit of Kate?

One of the stolen books turns up alongside the drowned body of a poor Oxford scholar. Another accident? Hugh certainly doesn t think so, but it will take all of his surgeon s skills to prove.

So begins another delightful and intriguing tale from the life of Hugh de Singleton, surgeon in the medieval village of Bampton . Masterfully researched by medieval scholar Mel Starr, the setting of the novel can be visited and recognized in modern-day England . Enjoy more of Hugh s dry wit, romantic interests, evolving faith, and dogged determination as he pursues his third case as bailiff of Bampton.

MY THOUGHTS-This was a new book and author for me and I have to admit, I was excited to read it:) The only thing I have to say was that it was hard for me to get into the book at first. Maybe it was the style or the subject but I had a hard time starting the book. I did push myself to read it through and once I was about halfway through I got more interested. One reason is that I am a big fan of John Wyclife. And it was very neat to read a novel with him in it. Overall I liked the book and would probably pick up his other books. Once I got more into the book I liked his different style of writing. It is a kind of different subject as well and the mystery was well done.
