For Time and Eternity by Allison Pittman Blog Tour

Well, I am a little late tonight in posting this review but I was on the road all day. So please forgive me all.

"All Camilla Deardon knows of the Mormons camping nearby is the songs she hears floating on the breeze. Then she meets one of them—a young man named Nathan Fox. Never did she imagine he would be so handsome, so charming, especially after Mama and Papa’s warnings to stay away. Though she knows she should obey her parents, Camilla can’t refuse her heart. But even Nathan’s promises cannot prepare her for what she will face in Utah."

I was recently introduced to Allison Pittman when I read an older book titled The Bridegrooms. So I was happy to get to review this book, titled For Time and Eternity. But the other reason this book was enticing was the plot and what this book deals with. In one word, Mormonism. My Dad was a Mormon before he was saved and so this really had a draw for me. I wanted to see how Allison handled the teachings of the Mormon doctrine and how much truth she would put in it.

When I first got the book in, I wasn't sure I liked the cover picture. It doesn't really have an appealing draw. But after reading the book I can see why she chose that cover. It seems to show Camilla's indecision and loss in a way. That is what I see in the cover. Not sure if that is what Allison was trying to get across.

I have to admit that the author did a great job in writing this novel. It comes across as a story but she inserts Mormon doctrine into it. Not as in she believes in this, but she tells about it:) And in a way that many people would not get upset at. She even includes some of what goes on in the Temple ceremonies in a tactful way without being too explicit. I have tried reading some Mormon books where people came out of Mormonism and I had to skip some parts because I think they were too detailed about some things. Allison dealt with this tactfully and very well done in my opinion!

I also liked how the author talks about how the daughter, Camillia, might have never taken the path she did if her parents had been more thoughtful, kind, etc. If they had just talked with her about the doctrine of the Mormons and how it differed with the Bible. Just some more kindness and attention given to their daughter might have saved her the grief and path she took. Not saying that God can't take a situation and use it for His glory, as is shown in this novel, but it really brought to my mind how much we need to talk and explain to our children. Thank you Allison for bringing this very much to our attention. I am not even sure this is something she meant to bring out in a major way, but this really struck me.

The only thing I would have to say I did not like is the cliff-hanger ending!! Definitely a way to get people to buy the next book:) I will be on the lookout for the next one even though this one just came out. Overall, I really liked this book. A thought-provoking novel I will enjoy reading again in the future. Way to go Allison!!

Thank you to Rebecca at GRPR for sending me a review copy of this book. I did not receive any monetary compensation.
