Help from Baby & Toddler Basics Book! #Review

This post was sponsored by the Role Mommy Writer's Network. All opinions are 100% my own.

First I want to start off by saying that this book is a must have for any new parent, any person who takes care of little children, or even parents who may have questions that they need answered. It is full of solutions from bottle feeding, formula, pooping, to fevers, illnesses and sleeping patterns. Baby and Toddler Basics is a great book!

Now I am the nanny for a 5 year old, but I also babysit a 4 year old and a 9 month old. And let me tell you, this book has come in handy for all of these situations, but mainly with the 9 month old. When I first started babysitting the 9 month old I had to cove an issue that I had never dealt with before. A 7 month old who wasn't eating solid foods at all. None whatsoever! She was only drinking milk, and wouldn't touch anything else. I tried everything from different flavored baby foods, pureed veggies, formula, etc. She wouldn't eat any of it and often spit it out after tasting one tiny bite. I had to become very creative, and once she figured out that she could pick things up and put them in her mouth, she started eating much more. I also discovered that she goes for the flavorful foods. Things like broth mixed in, butter, etc. she is more apt to eat them.

Of course I got this book after I dealt with this issue, but I was able to read it and figure out that I tried everything that was suggested in this book. Which I have to say really cleared my mind. Though I was following the directions of the mother, it just made me breathe easier to know I had done as this pediatrician suggested.

Again, this has just released and I would urge you all to grab a copy. It can be put on your shelf and when a question arises, just take a quick peek to see if Tanya Altmann has an answer.

From fever to stomachaches, injuries, safe travel, allergies, vaccines, safe sleeping and everything in betweenBaby and Toddler Basics: Expert Answers to Parents’ Top 150 Questions (AAP, February 2018)  the upcoming book by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ spokesperson, leading practicing pediatrician and top-selling author,  Tanya Altmann MD, FAAP answers Parents’ Top 150 Questions about babies and toddlers based on her over 20 years in practice.

Her new book’s simple, clear Q & A layout makes searching for answers just as fast as an internet search, but with immediate expert advice that parents can fully trust.  Baby & Toddler Basics is like having a “portable pediatrician” in one’s diaper bag, on the nightstand or on one’s mobile device (for parents who prefer e-book), always ready with reassuring answers, immediate expert advice that parents can fully trust.

Visit to Medieval Times Atlanta GA!

AUTHOR: CHARLES PETTYJOHN

One of my favorite parts of getting to visit attractions, is being able to share these great places with my readers. After all, who wouldn't love a trip to a place where all your medieval fantasies come true! Knights fight for true valor, horses dance, and someone in the audience is crowned prince or princess, a wonderful experience, believe me.

We visited on a Monday, New Year's of all days, and we weren't sure how the atmosphere would be. But it was the little one's birthday, and the only day we had free that week, so it worked out splendidly. A big thank you as well to the staff at Medieval Times Atlanta who put things together for us on short notice! This castle is located inside a mall, the strangest place I have ever seen one of their attractions, but it is a busy place and I liked the location.

When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was how accommodating everyone was. We were sent through the line with the King and got our picture taken. But B. the five year old, really wanted her picture taken with the Queen. Without any trouble at all, they let her through the line and allowed her to snap a picture real quick, which absolutely made her night. We only had about 30 minutes to wait, which we spent browsing the gift shop areas and watching the knighting ceremony for the birthday children. Then came the time for us to be ushered inside the majestic castle, and take our seats cheering for the, yellow knight!

The show started and we were brought the first course of our meal, a tomato bisque soup and then shortly after, the toast which tasted amazing dipped in the soup. I will say our serf did a great job, but did not get into it as much as those around us. No coaching for the cheering of the knight, he did his job and did it well, but the extras were just not there.

For the food portion of the show, it would almost be worth the price of the evening just for the food. It is an excellent meal with potatoes, baked chicken, garlic toast, tomato bisque, corn on the cob, and the pastry of the night. Oh, and you also get drink and a coffee! This is a good serving of food and guess what, you get to eat it all with your hands, something that we had to explain to the little one who is always told to use her utensils.

Now on to the main event, the show! I cannot tell you enough how much we enjoyed this performance. It combines the athletic jousting with challenges and games that the knights compete in, as well as the flight of the falcon, and my favorite part, the equine dances. I absolutely love watching the master of the horse put these amazing animals through their paces!

We were a little worried that B would not have as much interest in the two hour long show, after all, she is only five and it might not keep her attention. But there was no need to worry as she sat in almost rapt attention for the whole thing. And not only she did get her picture with the queen, but she also got a rose thrown to her from our knight!

Overall, this is a great dinner show and one that the whole family will enjoy. The attraction is well worth the price and for a Monday night that I thought would be busy, it was not packed at all. If you are ever in the area, I would urge you to take your family here, whether it is a birthday or just a fun night, you can't go wrong.

Capture Your Special Moments With Photowall! #Review

We all have those special moments that we would love to keep treasured forever. And while they may not be alive in front of us, Photowall is a company allows the memories to live on through pictures, and not just a small snapshot, but a large canvas print that you can hang on the wall. They also have plenty of other options, but the ones I received were canvas prints.

For my review I was able to custom order two items, and both of these canvas prints are amazing! One is for a friend and features a picture of him and his daughter, while the other is a family picture for another friend. The fun thing with Photowall is that it also allows you to build your own frame. Yes, you read that right, it comes with a DIY kit and you get to put the frame together for the picture to go over. And I will say this, I was worried about how hard it would be to construct this, but both guys who put it together did it in a short amount of time and one even did so without instructions.

The canvas print itself is beautiful, very bright and bold coloring, and a good quality print. As you can see, one of them is black and white, but it turned out just as nice as the color one. And judging by the looks on faces, they were amazing gifts that you cannot go wrong with.

Photowall is a place I would urge you to check out if you are looking for a present, anniversary surprise, grandparents, etc. These are wonderful pieces!

New Holiday Mint Flavors from Sonic! #Review @sonicdrivein

With our weather changing and the leaves falling, you can tell that we are headed towards winter. And one of my favorite aspects about all of that would have to be the holiday flavors. Whether it be pumpkin spice or everything peppermint, I just love it! So when I was contacted by Sonic Drive-In to try out the new Holiday Mint Master Blast and share it with my readers, I jumped at the chance.

I was sent a gift card to stop in at my local store and so a friend and I drove over earlier this week and grabbed lunch and a drink. I want to mention real fast too, though I am reviewing the Holiday Mint Master Blast, they have an awesome deal called the Carhop Classic. For $2.99 you get a Footlong 1/4 lb Coney or a Cheeseburger, plus fries or onion rings. And it tastes delicious! We both got one of the deals and ended up sharing the fries and onion rings because there was so much there. A great buy!

Now, on to the new holiday flavor. Sonic Drive-In has some of the best shakes and their Master Blast is a super thick concoction that I love, the type that you can normally only enjoy with a spoon as it is so thick you can't drink it up the straw. For my review, I tried the  Holiday Mint Master Blast in a small, too much food to enjoy and I knew I wouldn't drink it all. This new flavor mixes the wonderful cool taste of mint with chocolate Oreo! And not only do you have that all blended in real ice cream, you also get real Oreo pieces, and it is all crowned with whipped topping!

The first bite will literally make your head spin with the burst of flavor. Oh, and I can't forget the color, this alone will have you in a festive mood with bright green and dark rich Oreo pieces. This is very rich, I only ate about half of it, but again, I had already eaten a cheeseburger with fries and onion rings. If you were having this alone as a snack or a dessert, this would make an excellent treat!

Don't delay on trying this flavor, it is only here for a limited time and you don't want to miss it!

Fun New Kids Movies from PBS!

With the holidays approaching rapidly, we are all on the lookout for fun new gifts. And guess what? Movies make excellent presents for both children and adults alike! PBS children has some great new films that have come out recently that would make any child happy. Check them out below!

Anne of Green Gables The Good Stars

PBS Distribution announced that they will be releasing the L.M. MONTGOMERY’S ANNE OF GREEN GABLES THE GOOD STARS” on DVD. The second installment of the classic best-selling Lucy Maud Montgomery story of a free-spirited teenager on Prince Edward Island returns after the successful Thanksgiving 2016 premiere, which reached more than 3.2 million viewers.

L.M. MONTGOMERY’S ANNE OF GREEN GABLES THE GOOD STARS” will be available on DVD November 7, 2017. The run time is approximately 90 minutes, and has an SRP of $19.99. The program will also be available for digital download.

In this installment, Anne Shirley turns 13 and faces complex situations with friends, learns from inspirational adults, and experiences an escalating friendship with Gilbert. Her free-spirited nature is challenged by her perceived need to be sensible, a journey fraught with confusion and some unfortunate — albeit amusing — mishaps.

The program, written and directed by John Kent Harrison will once again star critically acclaimed actor Martin Sheen as Matthew Cuthbert, along with the return of Ella Ballentine as Anne Shirley (“The Captive”) and Sara Botsford (“E.N.G.”) as Marilla Cuthbert.

I have to admit, I am a big fan of the original show and was skeptical of this new series, but in all reality it was very good. You have to love the story line and they did a reasonably good job at keeping the characters in form. This is one I would say for teenagers or adults, yes adults will enjoy this one, but younger children may not understand all of it. Overall though we enjoyed it as a family and had a fun time watching it.

Regal Academy: Rose Cinderella in Fairy Tale Land.

This November, Public Media Distribution, LLC, will release the brand new DVD, “REGAL ACADEMY: ROSE CINDERELLA IN FAIRY TALE LAND.”

Rose Cinderella thinks she is a regular teenager, but things change when she finds a magic key unlocking a world where fairy tales come to life!  Rose Cinderella quite literally falls into Fairy Tale Land and discovers that Cinderella is not only her grandmother but also the headmistress of Regal Academy, a school where fairytale families teach the next generation how to become heroes.

REGAL ACADEMY: ROSE CINDERELLA IN FAIRY TALE LAND” (SRP$12.99) will be available on DVD November 14, 2017 and has a run time of approximately 72 minutes. Episodes featured on the DVD will also be available for digital download.

The episodes on this DVD include:

A School for Fairy Tales
Rose was a normal girl from a normal town with a super-normal love of fairy tales, who falls – literally – into the Fairy Tale Land. There, she discovers that all the fairy tales she knows and loves have had one big adventure that never made it into the storybooks: they got old! Rose is enrolled at Regal Academy under headmistress “Granny” Cinderella with classmates Hawk Snow White, Joy LeFrog, Astoria Rapunzel and Travis Beast. They’re all grandchildren of famous fairy tales, but what about Rose? Could she really be the lost granddaughter of Cinderella herself?
The Great Dragon Race
It’s the day Rose, Hawk, Travis, Astoria and Joy have been waiting for – it’s time for them to learn how to ride dragons! But the teacher, Coach Beast, is a real taskmaster, and he’s determined to make life miserable for his grandson Travis. Class ends with a race to Dragon Land, but when Rose is separated from the others, she’ll have to earn the trust of her dragon in time to get back in the race and save the others from a big crash at the finish line!

The Swan in Swamp Lake
Rose is excited to meet Magister Rapunzel, the literature teacher, but is not so excited about climbing up Library Tower just to get to her class. After Rapunzel has an argument with her granddaughter Astoria in class, Rose, Astoria, Hawk, Joy and Travis are sent into the swamp for their assignment. What sounds like a boring day of hunting down plants turns into chaos when Joy becomes a frog and the boys have to kiss every frog in the swamp to find her, meanwhile the evil Vicky creates a super-gross monster to confound our heroes, and even the granddaughter of the legendary swan princess makes an appearance!

Now this is one that the four year old absolutely loved! I watched while doing other things but she enjoyed this fairy tale story as B is a big fan of princesses and all. It is a cute little movie with three episodes, and they are all a complete story in themselves. Real fun movie for the little ones!

Rock N Stroller CD #Review

Good afternoon folks! A beautiful day here that is slightly warmer than it has been recently. But we have been spending some time inside and enjoying some music and movies. So when this came in, we were all very excited! Rock N Stroller is such a fun idea and these CD's are so cute!

I wasn't quite sure what exactly to expect when I got the offer to review these. After all, Rock N Stroller leaves a lot to the imagination. But these are so fun! If you enjoy some of the oldies, these will bring back many memories for you. And they are upbeat and funky enough that the little ones will enjoy them.

Rock-n-Stroller was created by Matt Zarley and Andy Zulla. After enduring endless hours of listening to kids sing the latest top 40 tunes on any of those popular kids cover song CD’s, Andy says he and Matt had an idea.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if these songs (that kids love to sing incessantly), were the songs that we actually wanted to hear?  And with that question, the concept of Rock-n-Stroller was born.

Rock-n-Stroller picks up where those other CD collections left behind...classic, timeless songs that are beloved by generations.   The first album contains 10 classic hits from the 70’s and 80’s like Into the Groove, Take on Me, and I Wanna Dance with Somebody. The tunes are rock  and pop hits that are re-recorded by talented young artists. The result is a sound that young children and parents will want to sing-along to again and again. The second album continues where their first CD collections leaves off, with timeless pop and rock songs originally performed by artists like Elton John, The Beatles, Huey Lewis and ABBA and more.

Personally, I had fun listening to the tunes like Surfin' USA and Sweet Dreams. B loved the upbeat ones and went dancing all over the kitchen while they were playing. And yes, she has asked for them to be played more than once, turning the volume up and just having fun.

These are great CD's that you and your children, or grandchildren, will enjoy. Bring back memories and make more with your little ones as you walk to these, dance to them and let loose for a bit.

The Rock-n-Stroller Volume I CD is available for download on iTunes or on Amazon for $9.99 or $8.99 as a downloadable MP3.  Rock-n-Stroller Volume II will be available for sale on Amazon and iTunes September 8, 2017.

Kidnap Starring Halle Berry! DVD #Giveaway #KidnapMovie #DontMessWithMom

Hi there readers! Fall weather is definitely here and this makes it the perfect time to cuddle up on the couch and pop in a DVD. And boy do I have one for you today. I have not seen this one yet, but I will be posting a review shortly once it arrives. Take a look at the synopsis and check out the trailer for Kidnap, starring Halle Berry.

Kidnap is the story of a mother who must  confront a parent’s biggest fear and the relentless  pursuit that ensues as she grows increasingly empowered to  rescue her child. Bring home the “intense, suspenseful and  thrilling” (Dave Morales, Fox-TV) adventure on  Blu-rayTM, DVD and Digital and discover a special  behind-the-scenes featurette that takes viewers inside the  film’s powerful story.  A typical  afternoon in the park turns into a nightmare for single mom  Karla Dyson (Academy Award® winner Halle Berry) when her  son suddenly disappears.  Without a cell phone and knowing  she has no time to wait for police help, Karla jumps in her  own car and sets off in pursuit of the kidnappers.  A  relentless, edge-of-your seat chase ensues, where Karla must  risk everything to not lose sight of her own son.  In this  tense, action-fueled thriller, from the producers of  Salt and Transformers, one mother’s heroic  attempt to take back her son leads her to ask herself how  far she will go to save her child.

Anyone excited to see it yet? I have been offered to host a giveaway where one of my readers will win a copy of their own! This is USA only! Giveaway will end 11/8 and winner will be chosen via Random.org. They will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

Chicken Salad Chick Restaurant Visit with #Review

I am so excited to share with you all today about a restaurant I was able to visit recently. I am telling you all, this has got to be one of my favorite top three restaurants to ever visit! I was very impressed with the food, the service, and the overall vibe of the eatery. May I present to you, Chicken Salad Chick!

The closest location to me was about a 30 minute drive, but believe me when I tell you it was well worth it, and I would gladly drive it once a week, just to grab a quick bite at this place. Now I know you all are wondering what the big deal is about a restaurant that serves chicken salad. Readers, this is not just, "another place that sells chicken". This is an eatery that not only delivers the freshest, most delicious tasting chicken salad I have ever eaten, but they do it all in a style you don't often get, and all made new every morning!

When I arrived I was impressed first of all by the exterior and interior of the restaurant. This is a very classy, upscale looking location, full of southern charm. You walk in and feel at home right away between the beautiful decor to the friendly welcome given by the employees. Loved it from the start!

For my review, I was given the option to choose anything I wanted, which was so hard! They have salads, wraps, chicken salad in a cup or on bread, and sides that would make you salivate. I finally chose The Chick as a trio. The Chick is one scoop of either their chicken salad or their pimento salad along with one side. When you upgrade to the trio you get to choose three items. So I picked out Lauryn's Lemon Basil, Buffalo Barclay and Classic Carol.

My friend chose the Dixie Chick and Fancy Nancy. We also were able to choose sides, I requested the Mac "n Cheese and she chose the soup of the day, which was Broccoli Cheddar. Each trio comes with a pickle, crackers and a sugar cookie. Now you can also get the scoop on bread as a sandwich, but we decided to go without and just scoop with our crackers.

Once you place your order you get to go sit down, choosing a seat inside or a table out in the beautiful weather, though we opted for a booth indoors. They brought out our food once it was ready, and we were excited to dig in. First I want to tell you about the flavor we both chose as the number one favorite. Then I will give a little bit about the other flavors and extras we received. Now our favorite? By far we decided that Lauryn's Lemon Basil was the flavor we could eat forever.

This is just so refreshing! You get the perfect blend of chicken that is mingled together with fresh basil and lemon, all topped off with the crunch of chopped pecans. Oh my word! Talk about a burst of fresh! This is amazing and I would travel the distance just to get a container of this.

The next favorite was the Dixie Chick. They call it their, "most offensive" flavor because it is full of onion, but wow it was good! Definitely brimming with onion tang, it was delicious.

The other flavors included the Classic Carol, their base to which they add all the other ingredients, the Buffalo Barclay, which I am sure you can guess is spicy with a buffalo wing kick, and the Fancy Nancy, which is dressed to the nines with apples and grapes and pecans.

Now if that all was not enough, the manager brought over samples of several other flavors, and more of their sides! We had so many leftovers that those back at the house were able to reap the benefits from our visit.

And believe me, Lauryn's Lemon Basil was still the favorite by those back home. The options they have available range from the classic to the wild, with combinations you would normally never put together but once you try it, you realize this chain has amazing insight.

Before I am done, I want to rave about the manager for a minute. Stephanie was a super hostess, stopping by our table without hovering, sharing all the tasty tidbits about the food and how it is made. Shhhh, we can't divulge their secret ingredient, but it was great learning more about the ideas behind the design. Stephanie is outgoing, knowing exactly when to drop by a table or when to hang back. I saw her bringing food out to customers, wiping off a table and making sure that the store ran smoothly. Definitely an asset to the chain!

Please, please, check out the Chicken Salad Chick website and see if there is a location near you. They have amazing food and it is well worth your trip! We will most definitely be back in the near future.

Crazy Cups Coffee Butterscotch Flavor! #CrazyCups

So hard to believe that it is almost the end of October here, seems like the past month has just flown by. But one of the nice things about each month is that I get to try out a new flavor of coffee from Crazy Cups. And when you look at the flavor I received this month for review, you will see why they are called "crazy cups".

The box I got sent is Butterscotch. And while I wasn't quite sure how I would enjoy it, I was very surprised by how much we all loved the flavor!

This is a very intense blend of brown sugar, cream and a tad of vanilla. I know, sounds like a rich cup of coffee, right? Well believe me, the explosion of flavor is just amazing! I added a tiny bit of sugar and some flavored creamer of my own, and it really is a perfect shot of joe.

Crazy Cups is definitely a place I would shop for the upcoming holiday season. A box of these would make a great gift and for those people who don't like coffee, are there any of those crazy people reading my blog? They do have other options for shakes, cider, matcha, hot chocolate, etc. And with them all being in single serve form, you could even do a couple boxes of different flavors for a family, or choose the "Create Your Own Sampler" and mix and match flavors. Love this!

LipSense Lip Colors #Review

Hey friends! I am jumping on real quick today to let you know about an awesome company I was able to review recently. Been a busy week with a vacation trip and back but wanted to share with you all about LipSense that I received from Red Gate Beauty. This is a wonderful new way to wear lip color that lasts!

I was sent two products, a moisturizing gloss and a long lasting liquid lip color. Now I have to tell you, I am not a big fan of the heavy lip glosses, I would prefer a light lip balm that I can apply a couple times a day. But after receiving this, I don't think I will go back to a balm again, other than during the winter when my lips often chap. This duo is pretty sweet and when combined together, they will last the whole day.

The liquid lip color I received in Luv It, and goes on first, and I will warn you, it tingles. When I first applied it, I was unsure if it was supposed to tingle like it did, but then I went on and found some helpful tips and realized it is common for them. The more I used it though, the less time it tingled when I put it on. So after a week or two, it really didn't tingle much at all. It is sticky, and goes on much different than a lip balm, but that is normal. The only thing I didn't care for was the scent, it is almost a chemical scent but quickly goes away. As you can see, the color is nice and light pink, and lasted the entire day.

Now the moisturizing gloss I requested an almost raspberry color called Bougainvillea and it is so pretty, but quite a bit brighter than what I am accustomed to. When it is combined together with the lip color though they work so nicely! And believe me, it makes my lips feel all smooth and moisturized. I am totally in love with them both!
